Once you’re over 750 it largely becomes a d*ck measuring contest

I think you need a mortgage or some decently big loans to get it over 800, or perhaps several credit cards over a period of time

like

You don’t need 800 for the best rates. This is the fannie pricing matrix. Any lender that sells to the government uses this same matrix. Note how the credit score factor maxes out at 740. In other words, after 740 it doesn’t matter. https://singlefamily.fanniemae.com/media/9391/display

Once mine reached 760 I was cool. Not worth the maniacal mindset to push further.

I got to 800+ about 3.5 years after opening my first card. Not sure what I’m doing differently than you (I also only open 1-2 per year). My utilization rate is pretty low, never miss payments, no debt, all the standard stuff.

like

Are you closing your cards after you are done earning the sign up bonus? If you are making payments and have a reasonable spend you should be able to get over 800 in 3-4 years without any delinquencies

Anything over 740 is treated the same by mortgage lenders

Don’t have a mortgage or any major loans (car, student). Only credit cards and my iPhone. Always have above 800. Here is what my bank says is driving my score

My parents added me to a credit card when I was 5 years old, so even though that was not my account, it’s been a blessing to have a great credit history. Not trying to say this is a short term solution, but just sharing how I have consistently 800+ scores

Credit card utilization hits your score pretty heavily. Avoid having a big balance on your overall credit card credit line.

Just reached 801 this week! I had zero credit history 4years ago. No mortgage, no debt. Low util on my cards, never carried over any balance.

The score really depends on the model used when you apply for credit. The free score available through credit karma and my cap one card is set at 756, but when I refinanced the scores came back around 812.

I have has good run for past 6-7 years with over 770-800 but it takes one refinancing to get it below that now. There goes mine to 💩er.

Anything above 750 doesn’t matter. Maximize those CC sign up bonuses, an 800 score ain’t gonna get you anything

You shouldn't need to manage it like crazy. Having too many new account hurts your average credit account age, which is a barrier to increased score. Maintain a low utilization of your available credit if you can (having higher limits helps), don't maintain much of a balance on credit cards, pay everything on time, don't open or close many accounts within a year of each other.

7 years. The only benefit of 200k student loans is they build a strong credit score. I missed a few payments immediately after school ended, so after 7 years when they fell off, my score shot up 150 pts to 820.

3 years or so. 24 now with 830

Looking for advice on how to career pivot. My husband is a general manager for a company that has HQ in a different state so growth opps are limited unless we move. He has so much potential but I feel like all people see on his resume is that he’s a GM of a location as opposed to an operations leader especially when applying to jobs on LinkedIn.
