Have you communicated to your management that you want a promotion?
About a year give or take a few months. It's very important to reach out to your manager or team lead and let them know you're looking for a promotion. Lots of times they'll side track you if they think they can, especially if you're good at the role you're doing now.
1 year (not at Citi)
Yeah. I would say one is standard. Two is a definite. If you're hitting year three with nothing, it's time to have the talk with them.
Hmm, 3 years is a while. Is this your first job?
I’m in the UK. In every place I’ve worked where an employee grows in-role and takes on more responsibility because the responsibility needs taking on, that has usually been discussed with one’s manager. If it’s a new job, in organic progression of current role, within the same company — then usually that’s an internally advertised position and several people apply into that promotion. I have never heard of promotions being handed out automatically after a term of time.
I got promoted after three years. It really depends on how many openings there are for spots above where you are. I wouldn't say it is abnormal though.
I wasnt promo’d after 2 years and have just accepted a job offer elsewhere…
1 year. Second role took 3.5 years until the third.
