How long did you stay at your first firm as a new paralegal before leaving? If you left for an increase in salary, how much more did the new firm pay?

I was at my first firm for 12 years. The pay sucked but I worked with AMAZING people. That was 21 years ago, and looking back, yes, my pay quickly went up with moves after, but I never found such amazing people to work with. As a new paralegal, I would say you should stay at least 2-3 years at your first firm and learn as much as possible.

It is. I went to my next job, only because I needed it because I was moving, only up a few dollars, but after that my next job went up by $30/hr. So it can happen quickly depending on experience and the firm, of course.

like

7 months and the firm I went to I received a $15k increase in pay (I’ve moved twice since and am up another $15k in pay)

That is something I am learning as well. I am really good at my job, especially for being so new at it. So I’m going to have to advocate for myself in order to get what I am worth.

I stayed for 8 years. I left because I made connections at another firm that wanted me. I was making $47k and made $68k at the new firm. Stayed there 2 years and left making $72. Left for a non-profit and make at around $93k.

I worked at my first firm for 10 years. I left when I moved to another state.

Hmm stayed for five years and got a 50% salary bump when I left. But that was big law.

Same; switched PI for biglaw; bump in salary instantly; it took me a while to do that though, had to kiss lots of PI frogs 🐸

5 years. I left for an in-house position, and a significant pay increase. But the training I received at the firm was invaluable. Couldn't have been successful at the I house position without the firm experience.

Stayed at my first firm for almost 2.5 years. It was a small firm paying entry level salary in NY perfect for a future law school student staying at home. Not so great for my situation. I left for a $20k increase at a national firm with better benefits. It also helped that it was a top 150 firm.

I was at my first firm for 4 years at a large firm. Started out as a receptionist 50k , and became a practice assistant (still 50k) in 3 months. Got a big increase to 65k 3 years in. I moved to a small firm with a 20k increase (85k) . I then moved again 7 months after and got another 15k increase at large company in house (100k)

I’m 23 y/o. First job out of college was a paralegal position with zero background in the legal field at a PI Plantiff only boutique. I started at 17.5$/hr. 4 months later I was bumped to $18. After being there for 9 months I moved states. I’m now a legal assistant at a medium sized firm making $60k/yr. People at my new firm r substantially better to work with it, its hybrid, & have decent benefits compared to previous firm which was family based & very political

What is salary of a Director at EY and Deloitte in technology group in Toronto? 12 Years of experience.

Is anyone here in the MarTech/Digital Transformation space? I have a very specialized role that has been customized over time as it evolved. Now I have an opportunity to keep the same responsibilities with a new company and a higher title. When trying to find salary information its all over the place since it isn’t a common role. Any help or insight would be so appreciated.
As a note, I know that I am significantly underpaid in my current role so I don’t want to make the same mistake.

That moment when you finally have all the trial submissions and exhibits drafted and given to the partner for final review after spending more hours than you should have gathering and drafting everything because your partner’s idea of case management and trial prep make you want to pull your hair out. I hit my one year at my company on the 15th of November. I had lunch with my boss on the 10th and he mentioned a raise but not how much or when it would be effective.

Flash forward to now, we’ve had 2 paychecks since then and I haven’t received anything. He said last week he would let me know this week, but I’m getting frustrated.

He’s raising my billing rate effective Jan. 1, and I’m worried I won’t get my raise until then. Anyone have something similar happen?

Happy Halloween! Hope everyone stays safe today. It has been two months since my last role at a law firm. I had only gotten one interview or no callbacks since then.

I am unsure if my resume is wrong in terms of not tailoring my resume or working for multiple law firms for a few months due to being hired through a recruiting agency.

What should I do to get more callbacks/interviews? Should I reach out to HR/Recruiter directly? Should I get a paralegal cert? Should I do the programs on Forage?
