I’m in the same position as you (right down to patent lit for ~1 year). For me, I look at what the mid levels and seniors are doing and think “do I want to be doing that?” Personally I don’t know if that answer is “yes” or “no.”
I’m also the same person! Junior patent lit and I do NOT like what the midlevels and seniors do.
You know within a few weeks if you like the people. You should know within 6 months if you like the work. This is based on previous experience at other firms.

Sounds like you’ll be able to continue doing patent lit at the new place too, so it’s not like you’re abandoning that practice? Broadening is generally a good idea, will probably give you broader/better exit options down the line and you’ll gain a better understanding of patents from doing full cycle.
Thanks for your post this is good perspective

How real is the opportunity to do TT work at the other firm? Are they simply dangling that to get you to switch?
It would be TT! I don’t want to do prosecution. And yeah this is the only firm I’ve found that’s willing to do it
