How long does it take before an associate can go in-house and how do you recommend branching over?

I've spent the last 2 years in consulting after spending the first 6 in industry. I'm considering pivoting back to industry to be in an operations leadership role but I'm not sure if I'm moving too quickly and missing out on more advanced consulting experience. My long term goal has always been to be in an exec role.

Anyone faced a similar situation and have any words of wisdom?

Any suggestion for good books on entrepreneurship? Trying to gather insights and motivate myself to finally working for myself.
