Rejected Amazon offer for better WLB and $. But I started this new role and quickly feel that the job is very different than its job description. Thinking about looking for a new role.
How can I have Amazon take me back? The offer is effective for 6 months, right? I do know the role I was offered had been filled.
Happy to go through the interview process again for a different role with Amazon, but what I should say about starting my current role for only one month? Amazon

It depends
It would be abnormal if they got back to you within a few days. It’s almost certainly faster than a firm’s application portal, but that’s not saying much. A few weeks is not uncommon in my experience.

If you’re looking for anecdotal evidence: I’m former biglaw lit and current A3 clerk, so solid credentials. For me, response time ranged from a few hours to 4-6 weeks to not receiving a response. In fact, in some cases, I never received a response then ended up getting an interview (and even an offer!) where the recruiting person never responded to me. Always go through an attorney at the firm when possible. Lots of uncontrollable holes in HR departments.

Had a partner recommend me. At another firm a former associate there referred me. A lot of firms I went through people I knew. Building a big network and making sure you do good work and make a good impression across town can really help out with this. Half the time HR departments don’t care. I’ve heard one HR professional admit they just run a search for a couple key terms in your resume and if they don’t find it they arbitrarily reject you. So if you wrote “mass actions” on your resume instead of “class actions” and they search for class actions then you’re screwed lol. That’s the reality.
