Thanks for the honesty McK1 and EY1. I can see how people may want to keep going in the hope of getting the GC esp if they’ve established roots here (kids, bought a house etc.). I don’t have those commitments yet, want to start something of my own, and don’t like how restrictive and uncertain the visa life tends to be. I realize there’s more $ in the US, but don’t think it’s worth the cost of my best years lived in uncertainty and not being able to pursue things or do stuff outside the bounds of my H1B job
Thanks for the responses, why are people putting themselves through the GC EB2 process then? Responses so far haven’t been convincing on why it’s worth it.
Let’s assume you get to stay in the US for 12 years before something happens and your extension is refused and you are kicked out. You would have built a solid net worth in that time, probably more than what you will make anywhere else. Then you pack up, go back to India, work at something that you like (even if it’s not the best pay) and have a financially secure future. That’s the practical POV I am taking to this. Don’t have realistic hopes of getting a GC. Just get rich and get out.
Once your first 6 years are over (and you have your I-140 approved), what’s the usual extension that you get after it? Do you get 3 years again (and keep on getting it till you have the GC?
You have a lot of reading to do to catch up. Approx. 100 years (not kidding) 🙂

The reason is that you were born in wrong country. That is what the policy states.
We have more people entering on H1B but only a limited # of EB2 visas.

EY1- Where did you move ?
So you can keep staying till you want unless they (amreeki gormint) throw you out

Is this a serious question? I thought every Indian living in the US knows about the decades of wait time due to country caps
176 years only. Just looked at the dates from 5 years back and it was 2007 and now I think it’s around 2009 ?
