It depends. General onboarding is one thing, but having an actual feel for the position takes time. I’m coming up on month 6 at a major startup and I’m finally getting my stride.
Couple weeks I guess? That’s what I’ve experienced. Keep in mind, you’re working from day while onboarding too.
There isn’t a set onboarding time frame. Get ready to multitask is all I can 100% guarantee on this topic
Conversation Starter
It depends on how much they’ve thought about employee learning. If they’re smart, they might have a 30/60/90 day plan, with most of the learning focused on the 30-45 days so that you can sink into the new processes and terminology. If they’re small and disorganized, there’s no onboarding and you’re handed a computer and you need to figure out how to catch up.
I’ve been in some disasters. I always ask startups what their employee onboarding plan is when I’m interviewing with them.
