How long is your answer to tell me about yourself during an interview? How many YOE do you have also?

I try to keep under 2 minutes. There are limits to the human attention span. 2 YOE

3-4 min, 3 YOE

Tell me about yourself should be max 90 secs- 2 min. When you walk someone through your resume that could take 5+ min. When you think about your elevator pitch try and be concise: name, college(s), quick overview of your background and then close with something that ties your experience to the job you’re interviewing for.

Interesting that your “tell me about yourself” and “walk me through your resume” are different - I’ve always treated those as the same question

Weird ask but would anyone be open to letting me hear theirs? I’m happy to share mine but I’m a bit insecure and curious what other candidates say

Just give a 15 second summary of each role you’ve had. It doesn’t need to be a science you’re just having a conversation with a human

Lol mines like 5-7 minutes and covers about me, my experiences, and why that company. Interviewers always loveee it.

I’d love to hear yours since you’re so confident haha

This is why I asked bc everyone is widely different in their approach 😂

Always 1.5-2 min for me .. say high level things that peak the interest and most likely the interviewer will ask follow up questions where you can dive into more detail. I also highlight things they can’t readily read from the resume

10 years and maybe a few min? I always crack a joke about my degree because consulting is far off from teaching or being a lawyer and those are pretty much what a person does with a poli sci degree. I also always say I'm thankful for my first manager taking a chance on me. The joke always gets a laugh and it shows I'm humble.

2 minutes or less. Mine is basically a story about how I got from college to today that ties into why I applied for the job. YOE ~10

2 minutes or less. I talk about how I got to where I am, what I'm currently doing, and where I want to go. Past, present, future.

Had two interviews, second was late last week before the COVID stuff kicked in. The recruiter who was very responsive has gone silent, ignoring my last two emails. Can't tell if it's me or the virus.

Hey everyone, I have been trying to break into the data science world as a strategy consultant. Have put in numerous hours after work and on weekends to learn programming/ DS and algorithms, ML, and statistics. I now have a pretty good resume of personal projects, but am having trouble getting any interviews. Should I go get an MS or keep on trying to find a job as a data scientist? Thank you for the advice.

Also if anyone is looking to mentor can I dm you?

Hey all, I find that in interviews I have so much content in my brain, examples, etc and I’d love to learn how to express things in a better way. Putting thought to mouth. I find that when expressing complex ideas, I put them in terms that don’t exactly reflect my true thought (such as over simplifying) and I end up underselling. My initial thought is to watch more content, read more to learn phrasing, etc but I’d love thoughts from seasoned professionals. Any tips welcome!

Did not make Google hiring committee due to 2 borderline interviews. Phone interviewer (American guy) gave me a strong feedback, 5 on site interviewers, 2 Desi guys gave me borderline feedback, remaining 3 American guys gave me strong feedback. Google requested a follow-up interview and the additional interviewer provided good feedback as well. I am not sure what's wrong with me, every time I interview with desi interviewer, I tend to screw things up.
