How long should I give new medication a chance to work and what should I feel? I was recently diagnosed. Initially, doc wanted to prescribe vyvanse, but we have to jump through hoops to get it, so we did concerta instead. I’ve been on it for five days, and I’ve felt extra anxious, sleepless, no focus, and irritable. How long do I keep at it before I could see a difference? And what should the meds make me feel? Thanks all.

I started with 5 mg, a very low dose of Adderall, and wish I could have the first day feeling back. It was like everything went quiet for the first time in my life.

I’m now at 20 mg after titration and I had to adjust certain things for it to work well. For example I stopped drinking coffee bc I was getting super anxious and edgy (I had switched to Vyvanse and came back to Adderall bc I thought Vyvanse made me too edgy, but it was the coffee along with the meds). I now sip a little bit throughout the day really just for the taste and also I can drink it more as the day goes on and med wears off.

I also adjusted the time I was taking my meds and monitored how much I was eating and drinking.

It definitely helps for work and otherwise too, so hope you can come to a better place with it. Also I’m about 3 months in.

Agree on cutting out coffee…unfortunately :(

No advice, just a similar experience. Although adderral was all of that but worse plus suicidal ideation. Ritalin/Concerta I at least don't want to die, even if it makes me a grumpy insomniac

I’m so sorry to hear this. I’ve been dealing with similar thoughts. Sending hugs

I'd give it at least a few weeks unless you're having big scary side effects. Sometimes our bodies have to adjust a bit. But good luck!

Give it a couple of weeks but you can still email your doctor now to share these symptoms. They may have suggestions

How many mgs did they start you with? It might just be that they started you too high. It can take 3-4 weeks for the benefits to truly kick in, but if you still feel like it's a problem, I'd check with your doctor about dosing. And after 4 weeks, if it's still not regulated, then you may need to try a different med.

I think I’ve got the lowest dose—18 mg. I planned to call the doc but of course didn’t lol

I felt like my Adderall wasn’t working, I was tired all the time, anxious, and irritable. I started working on my sleep hygiene. No screens or alcohol 2 hours before bed, going to bed at a set time every night, only use my bed for sleeping. Taking melatonin about 2-3 hours before I plan to fall asleep. I’m not 100% perfect at all of those those all of the time but I went from an average of 4 hours of sleep to 6 and it’s made a huge difference in my stress level and ability to focus at work. Since I’m not using my phone before bed, I use that time to do chores around the house that I always put off, or just go to bed early.

Have we become numb to the bad news? Are we being fed an agenda? Case numbers at an all time high, deaths at an all time high, and news is masked as “nadir” rather than being labeled for what it is, exponential growth at all time high and deaths rapidly accelerating to one of the deadliest holidays. Meanwhile we have companies still continuing with their return to work plans.

So today was my first day on a stimulant (diagnosed as an adult), and everyone says its suppose to feel like *boom* magic, or normal (?) , I guess. Knowing that is figurative, what should I actually be expecting? I feel mostly the same, I think, though I came in and actually did started my work today. But I mean, somedays I do that...I just don't want to psyche myself out if I'm expecting too much. Or pscyhe myself in if I actually might not be experiencing what I should.

Hi all, I’m looking to re-enter the workforce. I had to take a career pause @ the beginning of the pandemic because I had a child. I have 5+ years of experience in life science (bench top, pathology in a hospital, startup, and most recently clinical research). I’d like to make a slight pivot into a health informatics, clinical data or data analytics position but I’m also open to non clinical research positions like regulatory/quality assurance etc. Does anyone have any recommendations? TIA
