I have always heard 2 years. This is a assuming you’re new to the practice of law.

Me exactly

There's no blanket answer. Depends on what story you can tell on why you'd move. I've helped many first years move from one AmLaw firm to another in recent years. The old "stay 2-3 years" stigma is largely gone, in my opinion.

like

Totally agree. Staying in one place just for the sake of logging time isn’t great if you’re not also developing your career and not totally miserable.

I’ve moved a few after 12 months and 18 months. There are more opportunities though at the 3-5 year level. Happy to discuss if you are open to a Texas.

like

No real timeline anymore so long as you can explain the reason for moving.

Hi all,

Need your advice on a career move. I’m currently working in France as a Security Consultant (Freelance) and got offered a new role as a Security Architect. I used to act as an Architect before and it’s great. But basically I’m eager to stay in a position where I can really develop useful security skills. The role I’m currently doing in not that technical. But the company hiring me for the Architect one is firing a lot of people right now, earning less too.. what should I go to?

Hi all! What are the differences between senior/staff SWE and software architects? Are architects still a thing? I'm causally searching for a new position (my job had a 50% layoff last month and the survivability of the company is sketchy) and I've noticed senior and staff SWE roles sound like they have a lot of architectural designing and leadership responsibilities while not focusing on coding as much. Is this normal? I love mentoring, but I also don't wanna be in meetings all day. 😕

I’m a junior attorney, and my goal is to work in-house for a professional sports team (preferably an NBA, MLB or NFL team) or a record label, but of course these positions are highly-coveted. However, biglaw really isn’t for me, and I’m exploring regional firms in Boston. Is it still possible to break into the sports/ent. industry? Any advice?
