I have interview today, would really appreciate if anyone can help on above query as well as any heads up.
My law firm gives me a report that breaks down the amount of billable hours collected compared to how much I’ve been paid on a monthly basis. Does anyone else’s firm do this? At what point do you think it’s acceptable to ask for a bonus/raise?
I know I’m new to this bowl, but holy moly this bowl is f*cking awesome! I love the energy and vibe here and this is exactly what gym/workout culture should be!
How do I pivot from a broker to any job in tech?
Setting-up my new home (esp. the dining space) Need some advice. What's your take on slightly raised square (instead of the rectangular ones) dining table like the one below?
Currently SM in Deloitte leading data engineering and ML teams for commercial clients. Looking for exit ops to Amazon/ FAANGS and other cloud compnies. What type of roles i should target. I am comfortable with Program Management or client focussed delivery roles. I have been in architect roles but not doing hands on tech work for last couple of years as i manage large teams doing that. Can somebody give me the college freshman intro definition of “discrete items”. Working on some tax provision work and still don’t really grasp this.
Does anyone here have spine issues? I’m a pretty healthy guy and workout but the range my neck can move is limited. Wondering if anyone does daily stretches or yoga and any recommendations.

Best city to live while working as a consultant and why?

Will I ever feel capable of reviewing agreements and making substantial comments to them on my own? Second year here who feels like all I’m good for is inputting comments.
What do you do in terms of investment? I know everyone says ETFs if you're going to buy stock, but do you usually do recurring investments and if so, how much? (Currently a mid and feeling like I have too much cash sitting around.)
What is a reasonable expectation for number of documents to review per week for a junior associate? Managing a doc review with a lot of documents to go through and need to assign some batches out to a few junior associates. We’re at a firm where associates on average bill 2400 per year (just mentioning that for a general idea of workload expectations that our associates are well aware of). So we generally have an expectation that associates will grind it out but I also want to be (cont’d)
I know there are a ton of posts on billable hours requirements at many firms but do any other mid/senior level associates spend a TON of time on non-billables - group/dept./firm meetings; training; events; business development (writing articles, doing webinars, networking; outside association events); etc.? I feel like the number of hours spent on this is lost in the discussion sometimes and I know I spend an additional 300-400 hours on this per year. Anyone else?
Anyone has information on how much first year lawyers make in big immigration law firms like Fragomen? Does it make a difference if you had prior experience in the field as a paralegal?
That feeling where people in your graduating class are making partner in v30 (not at Kirkland) and you’re still years away, and wondering how you’re even going to make it to next week.

Finding that deal work and ADHD are a tough mix. Really struggling to keep up with all the components, characters and documents. Enjoy drafting corporate docs and opinions. Really like research/writing and creative problem solving. Are there any transactional practices that involve larger projects with fewer moving pieces?
Are large firms disorganized? In a quest to quickly get work done, and to be thorough, it seems to me that large firms just throw bodies at the issue. No project management, no clear delineation of duties, no planning.
After clerking, my BF recently accepted an offer from and joined a V50 firm (been there a few weeks). Shortly before his start date, he heard back from a V5 firm (one he’s wanted to join for a while) and just got an even better offer. Practice groups at each firm are also different.
The office he joined for the V50 firm is in City A. The office for the V5 firm is in City B (where V50 firm also has an office).
How should he break the news to the V50 firm to minimize reputational risk, etc.?
My friend got into a significant car accident and is going to sue the other person. Would it raise any issues with my firm (or destroy client confidentiality?) if I sit it on phone calls between her and her lawyer? I'm not a litigator so not used to this world.
Need some perspective -
Paralegals complain that I’m not assigning them work with enough notice. They’re copied when the work comes in and it falls within their typical responsibilities. Shouldn’t it be their job to anticipate what will be needed instead of relying on direction from me?
If you have to sell your house to relocate for a firm, do they help you sell your house through a guaranteed buyout program (or something similar) like some companies do?
Looking to lateral into a fully remote ECVC role to have more flexibility to move closer to family and to hopefully have a better work life balance. However, I was told by my recruiter that Cooley, Gunderson, and Goodwin said they’re not offering remote roles in ECVC at this time. For some context, I’m class of 2019 coming from a V10 with M&A and CapM experience. Anyone hearing or seeing similar things? Curious if fully remote is no longer offered as much or if the ECVC market has slowed.
Getting a staffing request that require weekend work out of nowhere on Friday night and donating my big law money to abortion funds to feel better (it worked, a little). That is all.
