How many A1’s have email on their phone? Trying to decide if I should set it up because it helps me prepare imo

Advisory manager here, I’ve had it since I was an associate (experience hire). And I expect most people on my team to have it. Mostly because I need them to know if there is a fire drill going on. Now I don’t expect anyone from my team to respond after hours/weekends, but I do not appreciate any one that is “catching up on emails” at 11 am on a Monday. we travel for work weekly and don’t get into the office until 10:30-11, so I need the team to be ready as soon as we get in so that no one is staying late. You know your team, projects, and overall dynamics. If you have the time during the day or night to catch up on emails things should be different.

The best thing I ever did was get a separate line and device exclusively for work. For me it’s about self discipline and it allows me to “turn off” work. During the busy season, it stays on and around me pretty much around the clock. Outside of the busy season, it gets turned off at the end of each day and ever gets turned on during weekend. And, I can leave it at home when I’m on vacation. We have a workaholism problem in PA and it truly is a problem. My solution has never been problematic and since I was an associate I have communicated very well and set expectations both below and above my pay grade. It works and my bosses all respect it and appreciate it. Maybe consider it!

I get email on my phone so I don't have to turn on my computer when I'm "working from home".

On Hangout, you can turn the "online" function off. So even when you're on your computer, it won't say you're online.

I’m A1 and have email on my phone. I prefer it so I can respond quickly most the time. Then again I’m not getting nearly as many emails as everyone above me, so that may factor in to why I enjoy having email on my phone currently.

AA1, KPMG literally says “as of this year” so yes the policy changed

I was more or less forced to get it on my phone and I absolutely hate it. I now check it relentlessly thinking I’ve missed something and get stressed every time I hear the alert. I never quite turn off and relax now that I have it and it’s honestly made me question staying at my firm. If anything is important, pick up the phone and call me. Otherwise emails can wait til my next business day and I shouldn’t be forced to have them on my phone when I am not working. the amount of anxiety I have from it is not okay. It affects my mental health and it’s honestly made me question quitting the firm. I know plenty of people in industry that do not have it on their phone and they said it’s made all the difference. However I am not sure I’m ready to leave public yet either. My biggest advice is leave it off as long as you can and just make it clear to your teams that the most immediate way to reach you is a text or phone call.

like

Do you mean turn off the sound alerts? I think mine is only set to badges. It doesn’t much matter tho, with my anxiety, I know it’s on there so I check it anyways. It’s horrible. But maybe if u turn the sound off it will help, thank you so much for the suggestion!!

Anxious Annie here. I have it on my phone so I don’t have to constantly pull out my computer to check anything. The push notifications are off - so it’s solely on my time when I check my email

like

Have it on my phone with notifications off. I like taking a quick look at it on the train before heading into the office to know if there’s anything important I should prioritize. I don’t like opening my laptop and seeing a bunch of emails, so skimming it on my phone seems more manageable 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don’t think there are any downsides to it. I got it on the first day. It makes it so there aren’t any surprises when I get to work.

I’m a senior and only have it on my work phone which I check like once a day. Highly recommend

like

SA1, I totally agree with you. I recently turned off email notifications on my phone and it’s been the best thing I’ve ever done. My stress levels have declined significantly and I’m not distracted all day when my phone used to alert me from a new email. I tell everyone, if you need an immediate response, call me, otherwise it can wait until I check my email

like

Thank you MA1!! I am going to turn the sounds off in it, I think I have it set to badges already. And I say the same thing to my teams, if you need something pick up the phone or else I won’t guarantee anything. I’ve also started not carrying my phone with me on weekends so I can disconnect as well

Until the firm pays, absolutely don't do it. Honestly I would think negatively of you if you were on my team and you did.

like

It’s kind of expected that we are reachable all the time on my team. People are upset if they email you something after hours and you don’t get to it immediately.

I've always had emails on my phone, even as an intern. Personally, I like to be connected. Obviously since I'm only A1, I don't get as many emails and the ones I do get typically aren't crazy urgent. Also, my team generally doesn't expect a response immediately if they email me after hours. But I like seeing the email so I know I have something to get to the next day. Totally personal preference though. I like knowing there's nothing in my email if I don't have a notification rather than not knowing till I manually check

like

Anecdotally I would say under 50%. A lot of folks at A2 gave in and then pretty much all seniors.

like

PwC pays for all of our phones (you can choose to have a separate personal phone or just have one phone that they pay for) so I'd say most PwC A1s do

like

I have it on my phone but KPMG pays for mine which is why I downloaded it and I have unlimited data. Idk how much data it uses up- but might be something to think about

like

I’ve had email to my phone since A1, and it helped a lot with inventory during the holidays. Didn’t need to keep turning my laptop on and off checking to see if I got assigned over break

Okay well now the real question is, how do I get email on my phone? Fellow KPMGers?

Switching consulting agencies atm. Currently I earn way below average at 42k€/p.a + car. Next week I am negotiating with another company wanting to employ me. I am actually bringing in a customer with a fixed 2 year project @ 1000€ all-in/day rate (5 billable days/week). What salary should I aim for - and what bonuses? I would love something around the market average of 65-75k is it realistic even though I am in my mid 20s?

Was hired into a company at a level that was more junior than my skills (Was out of work due to pandemic for a year). I’ve been at the company 5 months. We’re going through a reorg and my new position will really be leveraging my years of experience more so than other role. Is it appropriate to discuss a raise/adding senior to title? Or should I do the job and then prove myself then talk about raise. I have more experience than the senior members of my team. New leadership than when I was hired

Anyone else feel like that if they aren’t doing the work themselves then it’s never done correctly? Doesn’t matter what it is - admin to client work - always materially incorrect. Hello! I have a two part question: 1) is it worth it to obtain an SHRM specialty credential if I don’t have the broader SHRM certification? 2) has anyone gotten the People Analytics or Talent Acquistion credential? If so, how valuable was it from a learning perspective? Do you feel it significantly contributed to your knowledge in either area? Thank you!
