I'm told I need to give more billable work to a new paralegal. This reduces my billable hours, which have recently started to slow down. I have no financial incentive to do so as I do not receive a portion of her billed work..Is it a common practice for an associate attorney to receive a portion of their paralegals billed work?
I am a developer and one of my performance metrics is "Utilization" (billable hours). I am finding it hard to meet this goal (get enough work from my project team), accomplish all my admin tasks, and take vacation/holidays. Any advice?
Have any of the independent contractors in this bowl ever had a kick-back clause in their contracts - meaning, have you had to pay a rebate/kick-back based off of your previous year's billable time?
I need an assistant/paralegal. Probably part time at first. I live/work in a small city in Oklahoma, solo practice. I would like approx 10 billable hours/week (if part time) from them. What do i look for in one? Pay amount? (Most here make around $12/hour). Incentives for bonus money?
so, how many firm laptops' worth of billable time would you say you waste in a given month dealing with delays caused by your firm laptop?
I have practiced law for several years and still struggle with the feast-or-famine nature of my practice. (Sudden rush of client outreach, many emergencies, then … nothing). A famine week might be 3-4 billable hours/day. My practice area does not have a predictable annual cycle, like “year end” or “tax day.” Any tips from other attorneys for how to recognize, predict, and/or even out these periods?
To the KPMG user who keeps posting about billable rate and salary: This is a bad idea because other firms will use that information to undercut KPMG. CONTD
If you are an associate assisting on a file, you get cc’d on all emails and take time to read them and stay up to date, however you aren’t actually replying to the emails or doing any billable work. But you need to stay in the loop for when you need to eventually draft a document and know the facts. How do you record your time for these emails?
What do you do if you just become completely overwhelmed? Everyone in my group is overloaded, and I’m being pulled in a million directions at once. There just aren’t enough hours in the day, and I’m doing the best I can, but I feel like I’m not communicating my workload well enough, because I’m at my physical limit (80 billable hours last week) and still being asked to do more. Any advice on how to handle this as a junior?
anyone else feel that the billable hours model, especially in consulting/non-audit, does not encourage teamwork?
No stupid question, does model working/review session for a project counted as billable hours?
I am a litigation attorney with several years of financial services and insurance litigation experience. I recently left a traditional firm to do my own thing and get away from billable hours. I’m thinking about part time contract work (remote). Anyone else have experience getting this type of work? What are typical hourly rates like?
I am thankful for Slalom staff aug for allowing my low functioning self to fly under the radar. I used to be a Big 4 hardo, but COVID fatigue/languishing has me ready to retire. The hardest part of my job is convincing peers that a handful of emails, meetings, and deck updates each day = 40 billable hours/week.
Which big law firms give billable credit for hours spent on diversity and inclusion efforts? And how many hours go towards billable targets?
Any insight into Davis Wright Tremaine’s Seattle office? Looking to lateral from the east coast and wondering what the inside scoop was? Billable requirements, is it a sweatshop, etc.?
