Bros? I hope that isn’t code for “masc4masc”. I started visiting a therapist regularly after a traumatic project experience. I think it has helped but also don’t go in expecting that your whole life will miraculously get better. It does wonders to talk through your problems and challenges with a trained listener like a therapist but once the session is done, it’s still up to you to go fix them. That being said, no harm in trying a few sessions to see if it’s for you
Don’t think you’ll find many people who say talking to a therapist is a bad idea.
I saw a psychologist for a couple of years, it was good and helped me to solve some issues. Give it a chance if you feel like you need it. Cant hurt.
Went to one for 2 months and didn't get much out of it. Then switched therapists and stuck with that one for 2 years – pulled me back from the brink. 10/10 would recommend
Went to therapy on a weekly basis for a couple months, then did biweekly for a couple more months. Definitely helped me feel better and more comfortable with myself, highly recommend. I did switch therapists since I wasn’t getting much out my first one. Make sure to find a therapist who you feel comfortable with
If you feel you need it, then do it. What’s the harm?
Saying that! I went to a trauma counselor and pretty much cried all weekend
Went once and did not connect with them at all. It was a gay therapist too and I think I’m better off with a straight one, or maybe I just had a fluke person I didn’t connect with. Also, I think it’s fine you said bro, and don’t understand why some people think you’re not allowed to say things that traditionally sound masculine without being self-hating.
I’ve been seeing a therapist off and on since I was a freshman in college. It really helped me understand who I am as a person, how I can grow in managing personal and professional relationships in a non traditional context (as a gay male who isn’t trying to hide anything) and it also didn’t hurt when I needed an outside opinion when it comes to my career. If you feel like you need it, go for it. We tend to have decent insurance working in this industry so it’s not like it’s out of reach if you think it will help you in the long run.
D1, what did the second therapist offer that the first did not?
@OP thanks for starting this. Can anyone recommend gay or LGBTQ friendly therapists in DC? Any advice on how to start looking for a therapist?
D3 do you have a burner?
Anyone find a LGBT therapist who is also a person of color in DC?
