A1 me too - let’s be friends

I'd say I'm averaging 1 day per week. Some weeks I go in 2x and others not at all. I went in 3 days one week, and can't see ever doing that ever again.

Depends how busy I am. If I’m swamped? Not a chance. Moderately or not busy? I’ll aim for 2-3x depending on how my day looks and how early my calls start.

like

1-2 days per week. Typically 1.

like

In May/June I earnestly did 2x per week, but realized that I was the literal only attorney in the office most days in July/Aug (probs bc of summer vacations, kids’ summer schedules etc), and there’s just no point in making that extra effort to come in twice per week when once per week will do. I will happily come in twice per week when more attorneys start coming in this fall.

Average about 1.5, supposed to be 3--no repercussions thus far. Have a long commute, a toddler, and a spouse with an equally demanding (but mostly remote) job.

like

I should add, I like going into the office, but it seems like a luxury I no longer have time for.

4-5. I like having my space to work away from my house.

like

2-3 days. When very busy, less than that because the commute cuts into my workday.

I’ve been trying to do 2, official policy is 3, but they’re not allowed to enforce it. Jig is going to be up soon though, there are 5 or less people per floor on any given day, I can’t imagine leadership is going to look the other way on it for that much longer.

Sure, they'll drive the lowest performers back because they are already insecure about their jobs.

Never. I bill more at home.

Average 2, third year transactional and fairly new to my firm

I am suppose to have a “ significant presence in the office” and have no idea what that means.

It means you should go to firm events.

I use gantt charts to plan activities & deliverables, kanban boards to mamge them. My weapons of choice:
- MS Project (Smartsheet not as strong on core gantt features/functions but superior for sharing + all it's customization, abilities, is etc.)

- Trello for Kanban (labeling, filtering, robust add-ons, finally on enterprise task-level assignmemts). Sadly, Smartsheet kanban is weak.

Is there an integrated package that does both gantt & kanban that approaches these point solutions?

If you are working in consulting in the US through OPT (F1) visa and you are staffed in a project abroad, would you need to pay income tax? I understand that as you are a non-resident alien you would not need to pay income tax in the US. Has anybody been able to do it?

Why is it so hard to join a group ? My boyfriend has his group of friends (both males and females) but every time we hang out with them, I feel left out because I don’t have history with them and they all have their inside jokes and stories. He said I need to try more to interact with them but honestly I feel like certain friends mostly his female bestie is trying to not include me. I’ve tried to become friends with her but she’s not putting in effort to get to know me … I need advice.

Do Big Law firms try to talk or negotiate associates out of other offers? Or do they just let you go without much discussion? I knocked some past reviews out of the park and am feeling pretty guarded starting a new job search.

Corp/securities associate and lateraled to a 40-50 attorney firm earlier this year. I’m a non traditional candidate and considered a 3rd or 4th year and make $200k base. Waiting on raise/bonus info but can’t help but wonder if I could be making $100k more at a larger firm and working similar hours. I put a premium on the people I work with and have gotten a good rhythm here as well as built up a good rep so far. For reference I have billed avg. 180-200 hrs a month. Any insights?

Can anyone share about how their firm handles origination? More specifically, how long do you have to work for a client that you didn’t personally bring in before you would start sharing in the origination? Current firm doesn’t have a policy setting forth metrics at which sharing would be required, so essentially, associates and less senior partners are at the more senior partners’ mercy. People have to actively decide to “give” a share in origination to those actually working the files.

I’m currently a third year in my small firm’s life sciences team. I’m not really stimulated by the work and although they say they have a lot of work, they’re not good at managing workload. I haven’t had much work on my plate even after asking many times for more than six months. I’m ready to move to a larger law firm. However, I am concerned how I’ll manage the workload as a mom to a toddler. The good thing about my firm is that they’re flexible with hours. Anyone have experience balancing?
