How many folks here work on their own inhouse with the support only of an agency versus having a team around them. Trying to figure out the right fit to grow what we’re doing, but not sure how much I really need internally with an agency (maybe at least one person so I can relax on my PTO). Thanks gang

I do! I have the same questions/sentiments as you!

I am in-house with no team and no agency. However, I sit on a team of communicators who handle other states for the corporation and they fill in when someone is on leave.

I’ve been in-house and on the agency side, I believe you need at least two internal PR people who understand the ins and outs of the business and if there’s no budget for a full time agency at least identify and work with an agency on special projects and for crisis situations, as needed.

Having worked in-house and agency side, the best thing an agency brought (beyond arms and legs) was perspective. Certainly, there’s a valid case to be made to have additional in-house resources (because there are certain things - like navigating internal politics - an agency can’t do) so you’re not an n of 1 or 2.

But I often found in-house that my small team (there were 2 of us plus an intern) lived in a bit of a bubble, so our remit could expand more significantly with an agency versus 2 more full time staff.

Not to mention that agency spend was budgeted from the marketing teams and corporate communications - additional headcount is a different fight.

Hi! I need some help negotiating a raise. I have been working for this company for exactly 3 months now, but I was hired as an AGM. I'm not specific on what my responsibilities are as AGM.
However the GM at the time, quit 1 and a half months in. I was thrown into the role and have been handling it since.
My regional calls himself our GM but is never on site.
Was reluctant to cover my shifts when I became sick and requested time off for a few days. (4 days)
Any thoughts?

Does anyone (NP, PA, MD, PharmD etc) work a 7 on 7 off (12 hour shifts) in a hospital? Do you like it? Does your position come with PTO?

Hi. I’m an exempt employee (my boss’s only W-2 employee) and have two weeks of PTO. He’s making me use that for my physical therapy and doctors appointments, and I just got diagnosed with something related to my I jury (not work related) that could qualify me for temporary disability. How do I approach this and can I get fired for this? I have to take care of my body! And he’s insanely rigid, cheap, stubborn, and at this point I don’t even think he cares about me. I’m a very hard worker!

I’m 26, worked in investment management for 3 years and saved about $81k. I don’t feel fulfilled at all. Feeling pretty depressed lately and incredibly lost and really want a change. I feel behind my peers who seem to have it all figured out so neatly. Not sure whether to go back to school, just find a new company, or take time off to travel.

The only way I studied in college is by cramming. Sadly is so hard for me to get studying as it just seems like it’s so long of studying till you take the test and never ends. Have any of you guys passed FAR in a month of cramming? I’m also working but my clients are a little bit easier this time of year and have some PTO days at the end of next month. If you don’t mind sharing your studying techniques if you did pass in a month that would be awesome!

Any advice on negotiating for things other than salary with current employer? Most interested in a <40 hr work week (while still considered FTE), but also good to hear perspectives on negotiating for more PTO, benefits, 401k match, bonus, etc. How do I turn the conversation to this from annual raise discussion? Should I address with my line manager or HR? What are fair trade-offs for salary $s?
For context, annual reviews are coming up, but company has been clear budget for salary raises is low.

After the MLK holiday, our district is returning to traditional f2f teaching 100%.
