How many folks pack their breakfast/lunch for when they go into the office? It seems like I'm in the minority for my practice area as I go in office 2/3 days a week and might go out to grab lunch once every couple of months. I don't think I've seen any of the partners ever pack their lunch in, just the associates/paralegals.

Let me ask, at what point, when communication isn’t being returned, do you just go ahead and do the thing you’re inquiring/asking?

I’m fed up with communicating like a mad man to have nothing returned and then painted like a bad person/employee for not having work done.

I’m current a second year associate at big 4 and so is my girlfriend (but diff firm). If she were to leave and accept a job at my client in an internal controls position, would I need to disclose this to my team? It sounds like ethically yes but on paper in the guidelines, it says as long as we’re not married we aren’t obligated to. Don’t live with her or have kids or anything. Just a long time girlfriend, and we’re both at the staff level

I think I am a pretty good programmer. I can do clean coding and make complex systems that are easily maintainable and understandable for my colleague's at a good pace. However, my personality afk is completely the opposite, I'm messy, incoherent in speech, easily confused and distracted and perceived as ditzy. I've been accused of being dumb sheep. (If you know mbti I'm a stereotypical ENFP)

I had a divorce mediation last week. The client wasn’t thrilled with the results (is anyone after mediation?) but we left with the two things she wanted: the house and her pension. She thanked me. My office sent the bill a few days later, and client wrote my boss a very long, angry email claiming I gave her incompetent representation. My boss backed me 100%, but I haven’t been practicing very long, so it really stung. Anyone have advice on dealing with self doubt in these situations?

This might be too ambiguous to answer, but I want to get better at taking iniative, but I don't know how. I can be pretty shy in work settings. I do things without being told, but I want to go beyond that like start projects etc. Provide more value.

Yesterday my boss scheduled a meeting with me for something he needed help with. He was 15min late & took a phone call from his boss during…10min. This has become a habit. At one point I even stoped scheduling our 1:1’s because he misses them so often but he realized a couple months later & told me to start scheduling them again. I told him they aren’t necessary but he insisted. What do I do? It makes me feel less important/unappreciated. I rather not even schedule to meet. Advice?

I have a client where the two times I talked to her on the phone she basically told me I’m the worst attorney she has worked with. I told the partner about the difficulties that I am having with this client and the partner said she has not complained about me to him (at least yet). But I also told him if the case doesn’t settle (early stage settlement attempt), I want off this case. It’s a two way street for me and respect.

Ever been asked to draft a frivolous/unsubstantiated motion? Both, myself (first year) and a mid-level associate have repeatedly raised our concerns to the partner who acknowledged the problems but directed us to continue with drafting and filing the motion anyway. Any thoughts on the best way proceed with caution?

How do you say, “I have too much on my plate”? Not responding that you’re at capacity when someone tries to give you more work, but telling the people you work for that your current workload is too much and something needs to shift elsewhere. At this point I don’t care whether my “too much” is someone else’s “just fine.” All I know is I can’t keep doing what I’m doing. The mistakes I’m making just trying to keep up are getting bigger.
