How many gen z-ers do you work with? I feel like they don't have the reputation of customer-facing skills the same way that millennials do (which I have found to be a warm and friendly demeanor). Older than that is usually a customer is always right attitude. If you're Gen Z please do respond, but I just feel like I don't see a lot of younger people in our jobs.

I don't think it is a generation thing. I tend to think the empathy, warmth and basic customer centric attitudes are a) how people are built and b) something they saw growing up and modeled when they got to CS

I actually agree. I'm always impressed with how earnest and helpful the millennials can be. I try to model that a little bit in my own workday.

We've got a mix of generations, including Gen Z, in our workplace. The range of customer-facing skills varies among individuals rather than being generation-specific.

Millennial here, have worked with a few of our Gen Z’ers. Can’t say they seem too different to how my peers were at similar life stage.

I don’t know about the ages. I think the co workers I’m thinking of are closer to the Gen-Z age. They aren’t in cs or customer facing but sometimes I have them reach out to a client to give information and I’m always shocked about how many things it doesn’t occur to them might need to be explained or that the client is going to have no idea what they are talking about.

That just sounds like experience (or lack thereof!).

I am ~technically~ right between Gen Z/Millenial, and I am by far the youngest/an outlier on the team. I would say it’s definitely not a starter job But I had really relevant intern/new grad experience, and not to be this person, but I’m also very high-performing. I think one of the selling points to hiring me in the first place was my experience in presentation/consulting competitions, it really refined my “customer facing” gravitas, but it’s definitely an ongoing learning experience

Just here to vent that I feel severely disadvantaged for being a POC with partnership aspirations my firm. I've seen much younger white associates in my practice group get to go on client pitches, and as an nearly 7th year associate, I haven't been invited to go on a single one (even after voicing concerns about this to the partners in my group). I do great work, bill a lot of hours, and think I have a solid reputation but it's hard not to read the writing on the wall here. :(

I have a brand new person on my team- she is totally new to the field, has recently returned to the workforce (solo mom of 3 teens), is very smart. I knew when I hired her that I’d have to lean in to get her to where she needed to be. She has a ton of potential but lacks experience in a professional setting. I need to help her level up her written communication skills. Any suggestions on books, resources, strategies? She is learning by doing and takes feedback but I want more supports for her.

Now i am more worried because i Might have to lead the team. Managers/leaders what are your expectations from team members?

Small story time here. Met with a company that had me do three tests and all was fine until I met with the co-founder on the second interview. Long story short at the end of the call he said "Thanks, Kid" (I am a 22yo female).... inappropriate, no?

So, I got an email from him saying he wants to meet to go over my offer letter (red flag right?) I told him he can email it to me and I'll look it over and let him know if I have any questions... feels like im trying to be manipulated bc im young

I interviewed someone and they were clearly sexist. All the other interviewers - all men - liked him a lot. I’m saying no to him and trying to articulate why. Please help? What do I say? The role he would come in for would need to support me and my team- among others. I don’t want to be the difficult person here, but he would clearly not be a good fit and I get the feeling he would not be a good partner to me.

I was at a work holiday party, small gathering, and am talking to a senior person I very much respect. A woman in the group walks up, visibly pregnant , and to me looking smug.
