Used to feel that way before COVID. Now I work from home - been gravy ever since then.

Wake up at 8am. By 9am I am at the office, work till 1:30ish, then half an hour lunch (usually take food to office), work again til 6:30/7. Go home, have a workout (1 hour). By 9:30 i am usually having dinner. Then read something, work or chill and repeat.

This is the life

I’d rather shoot myself in the toe than work those hours ever again.

My manager expects me to

Can you move closer to the office or have a salad at your desk to get some more “you” time for workout or relaxation? This schedule does sound like a huge bummer.

How's that add up to 70 hours per week or 14 hours per day? Anyways, the last stretch of 10 days for me was as follows 750am wakeup, shower, dress, and commute 830am - 12am work (2-3 times a week there will be a 30 min workout and I usually try to eat dinner with the wife as well for 20-30 mins but typically expensing food and bringing it on the way back from home 12am - 750am sleep Friday finishes a little earlier around 7 and weekends are more flexible. Saturday I only worked 11am to 10pm and Sunday was 10am to 12am Around 100 hours total, maybe a little less

“Only from 11am to 10PM Saturday” must be in IB haha

What division do you work that it’s 70 hours? Guessing IBD Front office? I’d suggest either moving closer to office and finding ways to maximize efficiency and try to leave earlier even if it means eating lunch at desk. Also take time off to really figure things out if you want to stay in the job

I did the math, it’s closer to 65 hours than 70 hours. I’m in Investment banking strategy so not front office

Yeah Im at a boutique and this is a common schedule for me too except it’s commute home at 8:30-9pm scrap up some dinner and keep working until ~midnight and wake up at 6 to do it again. Weekend work is around 8-10 hours

I can’t understand the appeal of spending every waking hour at work. Voluminous empirical research shows that that working that much makes you less productive more error prone, less creative. We all have a very short time to live life. Don’t waste it on a lose lose.

I got some good news that one of the accounting firms I associate with is starting hiring again for September 2020. If you have 3+ busy seasons with a Big 8 firm and were laid off or looking for work, feel free to message me for more details. I am paid for referrals, but I don't need the money so no hard sells😋 hoping to help our laid off accounting people. Admins feel free to delete it not appropriate.

I am looking to gain certification or other credentialing in diversity and inclusion, not only because it would look good on my resume both for future job-search purposes and also to become better educated in this area, which is growing in importance. I looked at SHRM's "Inclusive Workplace Culture Specialty Credential" and got a bit of "sticker shock" at the cost - $1,655.00 for members. Does anyone have other suggestions on training/credentialing in this area?

Asking for friend living in APAC: They have 2.5 YOE as a Business Analyst post-UG, been unemployed for the last 5 months, and have just been offered two roles. Role 1 is FT for a boutique IT consulting firm. Role 2 is 6 month internship at a large biotech company (Agilent, Thermo Fisher, Roche) as a Business Analyst intern. It seems taking internships after finishing school is normal and not just during summer time for students. Which role would you suggest they take?

Do you think restaurants/eateries will close in the fall/winter if there’s a resurgence of high COVID cases again? Don’t care to dine in, but would order take out or delivery. I’m moving to an area with great restaurants nearby and I’d like to continue supporting and getting food from those places at least once a week while I can afford to.
