Depends on whether it’s IEP season. 😂

Distance learning has at least doubled my prep time. I would guess I’m around 12-15 hours a week after school is out. That includes virtual IEPS and class prep. It’s also been difficult to turn off my brain and sleep at night.

In a typical year 12-15

Paper work? Does that include emails to parents? Grading and planning and creating materials? If not, maybe 2 hours. Depending on how many kids meetings I have or if it’s progress report time. During progress report time, like 10. If paper work includes emails and prepping and correcting, then like 30 hours.

I couldn't even begin to count- but it is a lot more time than it used to be. I would say I spend at least 4 hours a day so almost 30 extra hours a week!!
I know that I need to do more work during break- but I just don't want to!!

I’m I’m using a platform called Moby Max- Really cuts down in prep time as the students are working on independent standards-

Much to my husband's chagrin, it is not unusual to spend 20 hours per week working on progress monitoring/data collection, individualized lesson plans, searching for appropriately adapted materials to post on-line, complete daily contact logs (contact usually with parents/guardians), reading and responding to emails, creation of weekly announcements, grading assignments, searching for and adapting multi-level lesson plans that "match" IEP goals, creating Alternate Assessment Learning Target formative and summative assessments, etc. If there is an IEP meeting coming up, then I can safely add about 4 more hours to those hours.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but I’ve seen so many friends and colleagues fall down this trap: do not take an exit simply because “I need to get out of consulting.” Patience is a virtue - wait for the right exit.

My framework for evaluating opportunities really boils down to “could I have gotten this job if I hadn’t busted my tail in consulting for years?” Anything else is a waste of the hard work you’ve put in.

Another two weeks passed and I try emailing her and now she has stopped responding to my emails . Don’t understand this …..

For 21-22, I’m going to have a 2nd grade student eligible for services under DD ruling, but the student’s subcategories for IEP goals are currently only personal-social (sharing, taking turns, raising hand to speak) & adaptive (starting, staying focused on, & completing work) skills. I just finished my 1st full year as a sped teacher, so I’m trying to figure out how to develop a plan for working on these skills. Any suggestions?

I have been teaching students with special needs for 21 years now. The class size used to be 12:1. Now it’s 15:1, but you can have up to 18 students with the variance. Now my Principal said that you can have up to 19 students!!!! Is anyone else noticing that the self contained class is getting larger?

I have a young student with CVI and extremely limited mobility. She is able to vocalize but not speak. However, I’ve seen her response and mannerisms change (positively) in the presence of parents and siblings which leads me to believe that she is cognizant enough to possibly use a communication device. However, I don’t even know where to start with researching the best one for her. Any suggestions?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows of or has curriculum for students in a Study Skills class?

I have been given three sections of Study Skills with 15-20 students in each.
I have always taught SDC, but this year my district said that we can do that now. When I got my credential I was not allowed to teach Resource classes unless I took classes and received the Resource Certificate. Does anyone know if this is legal?

I received my credentials in 1996/1997 and the other in 1998

Hi. I am a Transition teacher in California. I would like to know what is the ratio of students to staff for community outings in your districts? I have been teaching in my district for 20+ years and it has always been 4:1 ratio for our moderate/severe transition classes. Now our director is saying it's 6:1 and I don't feel like this is safe for our students.
