How many of you agree with the below statement?

In today’s India, liberals have been scorned as out-of-touch, Westernised elites, alienated and disconnected from the pulse of a country of nearly 1.4 billion people. They have been branded as being inauthentically Indian, hostile towards Hinduism, and “anti-national.”

Do not agree but see where you are coming from

Not ability to criticise power without being demonised is a big problem - liberal or not

I think this is a pretty accurate assessment of how Liberals are viewed in India today. And most of the scorn (though not all) is well deserved. The maddening outrage over incidents involving one community and the deafening silence when it comes to another community, reeks of hypocrisy and frankly is something that most Indians are tired of.
Each society *needs* to have a robust liberal viewpoint to counteract conservative/reactionary impulses. Sadly, Indian liberals are not the ones for that job.

Lately I’ve come across so many people on this forum who have shown utter hatred towards liberal thinking. Anyone who says anything negative about the current ruling party or the hindutva movement in India is being targeted. I just really want to know how many people really think like that. May be I’m completely out of touch from the reality.

OP
Do you identify as Liberal?

How do you define liberal?

Also How do you define Elite?
Is it South Delhi ki Lavanya elite?
or are you calling an IIT/IIM grad from a middle class family but now in senior exec position elite?

It's almost idiotic when people speak without any knowledge and experience. A lot of Americans,Europeans have more or less the same family values of a Indian. The only big difference between a westerner and a non westerner are only the opportunities. West gives you more opportunities for most of them. There is some amount of equality. Also the population problem is not a humongous problem yet. Slowly the west will become east. Assuming Western culture to be sinful and bad is very typical of some short sighted people.

Of course this isn’t true. That’s a pretty broad and generic statement.

If we are talking about left leadership, I agree to the partial statement ‘alienated and disconnected from the pulse of the country’. Left leadership has no clue on how they want to connect with masses and turn voters into their favor. This is evident from the defeat after defeat in National and State level elections. There have been some exceptions but overall their performance has been unimpressive and they have no clue or plan to get out of this situation.
Top brass of left leadership is not ready to give up their positions and make way for others. And junior workers and leadership do not speak against this out of fear of retaliation.

SA1: I agree and that is a contributing factor to the country not having an effective opposing voice.

I have an extremely difficult 2.5 year old boy. I know this is a difficult toddler age altogether but I think I’m experiencing way worse. There are frequent tantrums in public settings and it’s very embarrassing. We can’t do anything. He’s in daycare and apparently he thrives, so we just don’t get it. Should we wait it out or consult a behavior therapist?

Found a most enlightening work on decolonial history with tons of TIL moments especially about Anti Colonial movements in Egypt, China, Japan and course India in the 19th and 20th centuries. Most histories this period often adopt a Euro-centric lens but this book flips it and tells the stories of these turbulent times from the vantage point of the pioneering Asian leaders like Tagore, Al Afghani, Kang Youwei etc. Lovers of Asian history would surely appreciate this book
