I try to go someplace monthly. My round trip flight home is anywhere from $500 to $800 depending on time of year so o try to aim for something below that. I try to either stay with friends or family and on a few occasions planned ahead so I could meet up with friends at the destination. I’ve been to most places in the US this way but need contacts/travel partners willing to go to Montana, Nebraska, Wyoming, Idaho, Oklahoma, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kansas, Minnesota, Both Carolinas and Both Dakota’s

Me! Also international. One of the perks of living in the city with the most expensive airport in the contiguous US

^ you live in Huntsville Alabama?

like

As long as the ticket price is comparable I haven’t seen folks run into problems

like

Absolutely! I’m so passionate about alt Travel I write a blog about each city we go to that includes places to go, eat, and drink in these places. Really cool to see the entire US with our travel benefit!

like

Definitely!! Do it!

Those of you using it for intl travel, any issues with getting reimbursed? Do you need prior approval?

Flying to Jamaica this weekend :)

BCG1 close! (Not really)

M1: that varies by firm, partner and project. I’ve seen cases with restrictive policies on alt travel due to optics. Sometimes you can’t be doing a cost cutting initiative and jetting off to Europe/Caribbean even if cost of airfare is lower

@bcg1 - sounded good until you said “even if the cost is lower”... sounds suspect

Got it. Thanks guys.

Not common, but if the client has negotiated line item expense reports rather than a lump sum / % of billings then it definitely happens. Just looks real bad to explain to the client why they should foot the bill for an associate to go to Paris for a weekend when they are normally flying home to Detroit or whatever.

This is why you book both trips and document the travel. I’ve done this with line item billing. Just be sure to let engagement lead know

When leading a team through a reasonably large process change (e.g. changing from non existent to… something), is it a better idea to adopt a Big Bang approach (huge change, but all at once) or through smaller iterative changes (over many months)? Been getting approached by multiple recruiters for boutique consulting firms, and salary expectations never seem to align (mine are too high). I’m an experienced A in S& up for promotion fairly soon, which is why I benchmarked my salary expectation to SA level (140k base - even gave a slight discount there). More details: I’m happy where I am, with no great desire to move. Should I generally be setting lower expectations? What would your considerations be?

D-Day? Finest hour? I’m sure we’re all hearing these ridiculous references on the news to the fight on Covid and the vaccines. Sounds sacrilegious to me. This isn’t the greatest generation by a long shot. This is the generation of whom many flouted medical guidelines, put others at risk for selfish reasons. Whined about work from home. Recklessly traveled in droves over Thanksgiving. Sorry, but just an observation about the hubris that brought out the worst in too many people.
