And now for a diversion…
Arthur Andersen came back to life in 2017 and is trading as Andersen Global (formerly WTAS). What if Andersen (re)created an association with the the AA offshoots (e.g., Huron, West Monroe, etc.) and added other smaller firms (e.g., Ignyte, AArete) to compete against the Big 4/Accenture. It would have a London HQ. Audit would be excluded from the scope of services for obvious reasons.

What is your utilization goal? Firm, LoS, level?
I did until I started to realize how many of them are on a second or third marriage and headed for another divorce. It's not really worth it to me to have a huge house if it's always empty or to go on exotic vacations if you can barely get away from your laptop/phone for a few hours. I admire the hard work it takes to get there but not many of them seem to get much fulfillment from family, friends, hobbies, or anything else outside of their careers.
I'm not big 4 but if you are going to be in public accounting it is crazy not to be partner track... The struggles and work/life challenges aren't that different no matter what level you are but at least you have a little more flexibility in setting your schedule and get paid more as a partner. I have a family with young children and yes I work way more than I would like to but I very rarely miss anything for my kids. The profession needs more young CPAs to want to be partner track. I can't speak for big 4 or all other firms but I am familiar with several mid-level firms and the buy-in isn't nearly as much as I would have expected before I was a partner.
@Crowe1 I sure do. Considering the fact that I actually work with them and interact with a bunch on a daily basis....
Pass for me as well. I work part-time to make sure I see my kids grow up and spend quality time with my husband. It's not for everyone, and I respect ambitious people who want to make it to the top. I am just not one of them.
Every choice involves sacrifices, and some people gain more satisfaction in achieving career goals than family goals. Personally, I respect the family man/woman just as much as the man/woman in the corner office - but for me, partner is where I see myself
Pass
I do!! Partners are always willing to help. Big 4 partners have flexible hours, and endless opportunities to help in their passion. I work with PwC NYC Tax leader on hiring students with disabilities. They're human, like every one of us.
PwC1, I sure do feel sorry for all the Big 4 partners out there. You must know a ton of them personally to make a judgment like that.
It's not my ultimate goal to be a Big 4 partner, but I don't knock the position or people who want it. PwC 1, do you really know enough of the thousands of Big 4 partners out there in order to say most of them are unhappy and unfulfilled, or are you possibly making a generalization?
What is the buy-in to be a big 4 partner?
I think partners might work more than everyone else at regionals because their talent sucks. In big 4 partner isn't a half bad gig after a few years in

I talk to partners everyday and some are pretty happy with their life, could be because they ask got married to a partner 🤔
Only if they get rid of hoteling.
Where is the down vote button?
That is a huge range depending on the size of the firm and what the partner does. Even within the same firm partners comp is a huge range. I would say the range is $150K/year - $2m/year.
Lol a $150k partner?
