maybe Big4 will learn from Deloitte. not to lay off or sell off consulting arms...because now Deloitte is power house and all we doing is playing catch up.
I was laid off from Deloitte in 2008, along with most of my peers....
I think uncertainty in the market is a good thing that brings opportunities. If you look back to 2008, the start of the Great Recession there was a flurry of new regulations passed that required the help of consulting firms. To me, the status quo is the most uncertain time for consulting as companies don’t buy if they are thriving in everything they do. They buy to fix problems, recessions are problems.
I think this only works for certain services. Like risk advisory.
I thought it was because deloitte couldn’t find a buyer 😀
P1 I get your point but in the aftermath of the previous recession there was a bloodbath of layoffs. For those that survived the layoffs there was an abundance of opportunities because of the new regulations passed.
It is not a matter of if but rather when and how hard. Typical cyclical recessions cause some fat trimming that end up spilling into the consumer segment of the market which is 70% of GDP. So your PIP candidates just get trimmed instead of a year long runway. Leashes get shortened on questionable antics ( see Antonio brown saga in Oakland) but the world does not end.
This generation in the staff/senior/M1 generation haven’t seen a recession and their only frame of reference is being in middle school or HS when their parents were shifting bricks in 08. Context shapes views but history informs the wise.
Pip’s definitely laid down right now. Leadership knows what’s up and preparing for it.
