I’m passionate about avoiding poverty for my family.
This is depressing and true, especially in the US.
Definitely not. I’m passionate about making enough money to live a life I enjoy outside work and give my future child as many opportunities (or more!) than I had. As long as I’m learning/growing in my role and not doing anything unethical, I’m motivated by current and future earnings and the lifestyle they afford.

I don’t think you can work crazy hours / make an impact in this profession if you don’t care.
Passion is different than staying in something for money/prestige….
I’m also passionate about collecting my paycheck.
I’d suggest you read “Great at Work” by Morten Hansen. It talks about matching your passion with purpose to make it meaningful.
Passion is inward - what are you doing that you love, that brings you happiness? Purpose is outward - what are you doing to make valuable contributions to society, organisations, and people around you?
Maybe your supplier risk assessment deck or your dashboard is helping, even in a small way, a business make key decisions that eventually helps their business grow, make more profits, add more jobs etc.
Love this! So true. I also found on a project I didn’t love that if I focused on the fact that my work made my entire client team’s work life A LOT less stressful so they hated their lives a little less - that gave a me a lot of purpose and motivation to carry me through an otherwise potentially dry project
I’d say I am. I’m in Strategy for life sciences and while I’m not “passionate” about day to day tasks, I enjoy most of them so I don’t feel like work is a chore. But I’d say I am passionate about the industry and love the advances our clients are making, trying to understand what that means for society as a whole, and that kind of big picture stuff. And consulting fits my strengths and work preferences (and compensation ambitions) so feels like a win win win
