Why didn’t Schumer try to get an abortion bill through that mimicked what existed already rather than expanding it? Strategically I don’t understand the move. I get it’s not passing anyway, I would think you’d want pubs on the record for the least extreme version to underscore their far right view come election time.
So true 🤣
Got an initial an offer of 110k for Senior Consultant at Booz Allen. Currently 4.5 YOE Analytics w Masters. Should I shoot for higher?
My wife is 19 weeks pregnant and just caught the common cold. Was advised to not take Nyquil/Tyenol as not pregnancy safe and she already has lower immunity because of the baby. Should I be concerned? Is there any risk to pregnancy? Extremely worried. Was told to rest and wait it out.

Due to increased access to Netflix during lockdown, I've watched all seasons of The Thick of It about 3 times already. I love the wit, the swearing, the politics and the swearing. What other British TV shows would you recommend that I might have missed out on?

Can anyone relate to working from home and having children at home 24/7 due to mandatory virtual schooling? It seems as if my male colleagues do not understand why I can’t meet the billable hours each month. I haven’t had a paralegal or any admin assistance in 7 months. And one response I received today was “Can’t you just lock them out of your office.” No I can’t. And the firm is making 7k per month revenue off of me but wanting the double my billing.

Specialists, what is your speciality and what % of your work is transactional deal support work? What is the hardest document/work product you work on outside of deal support?
Leave or stay?
I'm a class of 2019 corporate/ecvc associate at a NY based EC/VC boutique. Just had my annual review: next year I'll be paid $175k/yr, with $10k bonus for hitting 1,600 hrs. 10% bonus on originated fees. Hours are definitely less than biglaw and the partners are nice to work with, but can't stop thinking about how I'd make almost double (albeit pretax) at a biglaw. Or should I just be happy that the tech downturn didn't bite my ass?
Has anybody successfully leveraged a job offer into better conditions at the incumbent firm? I.e. office transfers or better case opportunities - not compensation. Or do people get offers and take them as a matter of course?
Are firms still looking for 3Ls to start full time in corporate? I know someone who summered at a V10 and wants to switch to one of a few different V10s. How often does this happen? Do the bar expenses, etc complicate things?
Now with a plan for things getting back to normal it would be a good time to address an elephant in the BigLaw Bowl. Who here has been laid off due to Covid or just during Covid? I admit I have.

Starting at a firm post-clerkship in September. Never worked in a firm (and private practice generally) before. Any tips/advice to help prepare me would be appreciated.
I save every email from legal recruiters. One day, I plan on emailing them all at the same time stating my interest in lateraling and let the chaos begin.
I know this question is somewhat vague and broad but I’ll soon be joining a Banking & Finance team (in BigLaw) as a junior associate. I’d be grateful for any tips on how to thrive in this role. What characteristics make a good junior transactional lawyer?
As a (class of 2020) second year whose several classmates from different groups are already thinking about leaving/going to other firms, should I explore other options too? Don’t know if they’re being dramatic about how bad it is or if I’m just drinking the koolaid in my group?
I'm thinking about taking a Staff Attorney position with the Second Circuit. What are the thoughts about this? I know it might be less prestigious than a clerkship but is it still good for a young litgator or should I stay at my firm?
Do you think it’s possible to be a happy person in NYC/NYC biglaw? I’m considering lateraling from another major market and nervous about it. Biglaw is biglaw so I’m used to that part, but worried about how much worse NYC may be. Anyone else done this and how was your experience?
What's the TC range for large banks (Goldman, Citi, Morgan Stanley, etc.) with 9-10 YOE? Thinking of jumping ship to in-house in financial services and wondering what comp range to expect.
Also, any notable pros or cons of going in-house to bank?
For those that live in Manhattan, what’re you currently paying for rent (and for how many bedrooms, etc.)? Trying to get a sense of the current market because I’m transferring offices from Chicago to NYC. 4th year fwiw
My lease ends soon and I really want out of the city, but don’t have family I can stay with. Should I try and put things in storage and rent something furnished short term or actually move and hope we don’t have to be back in the office until 2021/spring 2021?
Which firms are handling the FTX restructuring?
I seem to keep working with senior associates that ask me to do every little thing (draft two sentence replies to emails, make minor changes to docs that would take 2 seconds, etc.) I’m mid-level and I get there is a difference in billing rates. But it’s getting to the point where I’m having to drop what I’m doing every 30 minutes. Is this normal?
Did anyone transfer to NYC within their firm from another office? Are firms easily agreeable to do that? Does it matter if you are very junior?

I didn’t spend too long in biglaw. A little more than a year. For many reasons, but the main including my own mental well being and desire to have a family. I moved to banking compliance. Took a bit of a pay cut initially - about 20-30% and knowing that the increases in salary in banking wouldn’t be as attractive. However, I’m getting up there and like my job infinitely more. Still in banking, but moved firms once.
