My first year as a director (last year) was my first year cracking 200k. I will this year as well.
😂
Easy to make that in a tier 1 city. Secret is to make that in a tier 3 city, then you have a lot of disposable income and living in a mansion vs a shoebox apartment.
But I don’t even like Applebee’s
Imagine a group a people saying it’s “not that hard” to make $200K and then probably deny that privilege exists when asked about it
This.
Started with 60k in 2012 in the industry. 180k In 2019. Patience will pay off.
Actually looking for a simpler job .. happy to take a pay cut
S&1, hey bud I wasn’t intending to suggest you were the one that said that, although I see how that could be misconstrued the way it was phrased. Unfortunately can’t go back to edit it now, sorry for any confusion though.
It’s really not hard. First year consultants make that
8.25% interest SC? Better refi. Paying off your loans is retirement savings. Both impact net worth the same. Also, make big chunks out of bonuses. You got this!
At this point, believe it’s just about everyone coming out of mba/PhD at well known firms
@op we’re talking management/ strategy consulting specifically given the bowl we are posting in. I graduated back in 2017 and recruited with these top firms. Yes, all just under 200k then, and they are only higher now
Was $300k 4 years post MBA. Exited to industry @>$500k.
48% of total comp is base, 24% cash bonus (at target 1x - could be 0-2x), 24% equity (half RSU at target 1x - could be 0-2x, half options), 5% retirement match.
~525 at target. Target/perf multiplier is tied to combos of rev/EBITDA/TSR/share price only. >700 at max perf multiple at grant/par value i.e. before adding associated stock appreciation.
Starting MBA comp with bonus is above 200k at essentially all strategy shops
Most Big 4 Managers in consulting or transactions practices in the US will clear $200k and Senior Managers will be closer to $300k. We live in a very rarified bubble.
BCG2 that’s “Loss Prevention” 😂 I had a couple friends who did that for Sears in high school
Dude it's not that hard
Independent Black tech consultant here. over 400k this year having multiple clients. Believe in yourself, find a niche, and take a leap of faith.
It’s also much easier to hit when you live in the US, where wages are comparatively much higher. I was a manager at ACN in Europe making €67K, and jumped to $125K just by moving to the US. If you’re not an MBA or on the strategy side of the business, pretty much everybody who is a Director or above is clearing at least $200K.

In 2-3 years. Fresh grad here 🤷🏻♂️
Lol most don’t make it for awhile
Mgr. No MBA. This year 189k plus 38k bonus
With any campus here, we’re buying potential, not performance. Those who demonstrate a lack of either get counseled out (rather quickly in the BCG model I’d add).
Tier 3, M. About 210ish all in. Assuming above average bonus.
240k with bonus.
FML, manager non MBA but with engineering Masters 120 including bonus!!! Urgh I’m waisting my time or what?
BCG 2 disagree, but it certainly helps you earn more early career.
I’m in M3 in Tech Consulting and make over 200k. I was an experienced hire 7 years in industry plus 2 years at another consulting firm. I have a BA. my education started at a community college and finished at a 4 year school. I got lucky!
Find a niche and go independent. Cross $200k easily. Good enough to have multiple clients? Sky is the limit.
Just one little down side of a high salary: Your hourly rate grows, too. You may price out yourself from the internal job market.
