I wore sweatpants to the office last week -.-
I haven’t seen suit and tie standard anywhere in a 10+ year career
What kind of nerd goes to the office these days?
Rule of thumb is Navy + Charcoal suit at least. Getting a third (Black) is nice but not necessary. Definitely need more shirts though
Yeah, second navy suit >>> black

Throw in a blue check shirt for a little razzle dazzle

3 suits and 7-8 shirts is a good bet. That way you’ll always have a full week’s worth of clean shirts if you drop them at the cleaners on Saturday and can’t get back to pick them up until Tuesday. Especially in the summertime, and even more especially if you don’t wear a t-shirt or wifebeater under your shirt or you wear underarm “deodorant” instead of antiperspirant, the shirts will need to be laundered after every wearing.
PS - wear antiperspirant. There are few things grosser than someone raising their arms and seeing big wet circles on their shirt. It’s not gonna give you cancer and will make you look better groomed.
PS2 - 2 really nice suits are better than 3 meh suits.
Buy extra undershirts so you can change into a fresh one if you get swampy during the day
Don’t forget your third suit - Birthday. Use it on the last day
I accumulated suits quickly when I started here and now barely ever use them—if you have one you’re fine, if you have two you can even cover the rare occasion you need a suit two days in a row. Don’t get a third for an internship.

You don’t need anything more for your internship. If you just like to dress formally every day though, you could use a charcoal suit and a bunch more shirts.
The need for suits (vs jackets or even just slacks and a dress shirt) is very geography and sector specific. I haven’t worn a tie in years, but people in my office serving the government or aerospace seem to wear them everyday.
Since it's just an internship I don't think you need to get anything more than this for now.
Wait till you hear about your staffing situation, depending on the sector you may not need any suits at all. If you're travelling, nice to have like 5 shirts handy - but all don't need to be super dressy.
Once you start you have training for two weeks and during the course of that you can check with others if you need to invest in more pieces - I over thought the dresscode before I joined but have been exclusively wearing Uniqlo since I did haha.
2 suits, 7-8 shirts.
As an intern I assume you have not figured out what you actually want in life yet. Further, if you tell me you do I hold still that you do not actually know yet and 1980’s confidence is getting the way; a thing you likely know nothing about but was programmed into you at a young age. Buy one, play dress up when it’s important, and be you. It means far more overall.
