How many times a week/month would you say you receive criticism from your superior? Just curious…

Not weekly nor monthly, but I’m about 15 minutes away from getting an earful from my GC (my boss’s boss) for something.

Should be a lot of fun.

Not weekly, not monthly. During yearly and interim reviews.

I feel like I get subtle criticism/overridden on a weekly basis but I’m still new-ish and my manager is copied on all correspondence. Manager has only me as a direct report and I am the first direct report so I think they are still getting acclimated (as am I).

Been there. The relationship didn’t last long. Can’t bear the micromanagement and condescending attitude. Good luck.

An employee came to me in confidence to raise concern about a colleague of hers who speaks often about guns and how many he owns, etc. Based on what she's described, I don't believe this person has been threatened in any way, but it's clear that the situation is making her feel very uncomfortable - especially given recent events. What, if anything, can I or should I do to help? The company is on the smaller side, so there's really no option to move either employee to a different team.

I’m a junior litigation associate at a small firm, and the managing partner says things like “you aren’t providing value to the firm” or “you’re being paid to avoid mistakes like these” when I make mistakes due to, what I believe, to be a lack of guidance and instruction. As in, they could be easily avoided with a “please keep in mind X” or something like that. Thoughts?

I love my job and the people I work with, but there’s one thing that really bothers me: the lack of diversity. Sometimes when I walk into the office and see everyone else around me as the only POC, it feels kind of weird. I don’t think anyone here has ever said anything racist or sexist to me personally, but I don’t feel comfortable talking about these issues with anyone because they might take it personally and then things could get awkward between us.

I could use some advice on this situation. I’ve been working for a small family owned business in Toronto Canada for about 4months. I’ve noticed a lot of unprofessional behaviour since I’ve started (yelling at workers infront of customers) I’ve bounced around different positions so much that the owner blames 98% of stuff on me when something isn’t done, even if it’s not my responsibility anymore.A week ago I asked for an employment contract to get this straight but nothing yet. What do I do?

Have any of you approached your employer for reimbursement for being asked to use your phone at work? Specifically things like texting your boss while they are in court? Considering where real estate is, I'm trying to decide what to do...

I bought a townhouse at the bottom of the market in 2011 for 230k. Still owe about 150k, and currently worth about 500-530k.

I moved out last August after getting married but I didn't sell since I knew I could, and am, renting for about $800/month more than it costs me all in.

I believe I have another year to decide if I want to sell and make use of primary residence exclusion from cap gains on sale.

Do I sell or hold?

I got a job in-house 6 months after working at a law firm. I really love the work I’m doing (a little bit of everything) but am not getting the mentorship and training I should be getting. Do you think I should try to get a job at a law firm and then try to go back in-house in 2-3 years? Or just try to switch companies to get better mentorship?

I heard that when Netflix hires outside counsel, it asks a series of questions to determine how credit is given at the firm selected. The goal is to ensure that the “old white hairs” at the top are not receiving/taking credit from the lawyers really doing and managing the lion’s share of the work. Some level of research shows that the real working lawyers tend to be predominantly women/POC who are essentially punished by old school origination systems. Thoughts?
