I often wear one or two clothing items twice in a week so lots of repeats. Total work wardrobe is ~5 dresses, ~5 skirts, 6-8 blouses, 2-3 pairs of pants, ~5 sweaters and a couple of rarely worn blazers. On average I bring 2 pairs of shoes a week from a rotation of 6-8 pairs.
Most of my things are neutral colors and I use accessories and bright sweaters to add some variety, but I just do not want to think about work outfits that much.
Yup same. Except for way more shoes. We all have our vices
Layer versatile basics with statement accessories (jewelry, jackets, belts, shoes) and tops. Prob have 10-15 pants, 8-10 skirts, and 20-40 blouses.
Sounds like overkill but I like dressing up.
I have about the same articles of clothing. It allows me to mix and match and it gives me enough of a buffer in the event I'm behind on laundry. I usually go through my closet and donate stuff when I buy new clothes
Suits - 2
Dress pants - 4 pair
Blouses - 6
Cardigans w/matching shells - 6
Sweaters - 6
Gave up on dresses/skirts years ago.
I used to have much more but when I packed to move across the country I donated everything and anything I hadn’t worn in the past 12 months.
Aiming for simplicity, anytime I buy something new, something in the closet must be donated or tossed out. Keeps me from over-accumulating
^adding: this is partly because I travel almost every week and refuse to spend more than 20min packing on Sunday nights, so if I have to spend time thinking about how to coordinate an item, if it can’t be part of multiple outfits, or I notice I haven’t worn something more than a couple times in a year, it gets donated or sold.
If you’re really looking to consolidate your wardrobe, I’d suggest setting aside a couple of hours to go through your entire work wardrobe. For anything you’re hesitant about, try it on and see if you can make several outfits out of it. For things you like or wear a lot, think about what makes them so versatile or why you like the look, and use that as a guide in future shopping.
Agreed. No more than 20 minutes for sure
I am a manager on a long term project and I want to know what other folks do? How often do you repeat outfits - I absolutely don’t mind repeating, just trying to get a sense of what other folks do. Any ideas on consolidating my wardrobe into something comprehensive?
Probably 20ish outfits that I rotate frequently and 5ish for special occasions
I have a lot of back and gray basics (2-3 pr pants in each and a couple of dresses). Then as others have said, mix these with different blazers and scarves, etc. by sticking to a color scheme I can minimize the shoes I need to bring. I am in meetings with multiple groups each week so I also recycle my clothes on a single trip (never the same exact outfit twice in the same week with the same people.). I can pack in less than 10 min.
I have around 15-20 shirts/blouses, 15 dresses, 10 skirts (3 part of 2 pc suit, 7 statement pcs), 6 pants/jeans, and 5 blazers.
I primarily buy clothes I could wear at work and outside of work, i.e. have <2 tank tops, strapless shirts, ans jean shorts each. I'm very low maintenance and repeat clothes all of the time because I go through periods of attachment to certain clothes 😄
Also only wear 2 pairs of shoes: 1 black and 1 brown
I wear a lot of black and dark colors so I can easily mix/match and repeat heavily. I have 7 blazers (I love blazers), 6 button-down shirts, 5 or so blouses, 7 pairs of pants including dressy jeans, 5 pairs of shoes, and 5 or so dresses which I rarely ever wear. Quite a few of the blazers were acquired as part of suits. Tips for consolidating- focus on a few colors that all match together, avoid prints or patterns that can only be worn with certain items. Invest in quality black shoes that go with anything. My personal preference is to avoid dresses and rotate between whatever blazer/pants/top combo I feel like each week.
I've got 5-6 pairs of pants, 10-15 blouses, 3-4 sweaters, 2-3 skirts, 8-10 shoes and 6-8 dresses (various levels of formality)
I generally pack 3 bottoms and 5 tops for 4 days, and while I repeat pieces every 2-3 weeks, its usually over a month before i repeat a whole outfit.
I stick to black/ navy/ grey/ fair nude for bottoms/ shoes with coordinating colors on tops.
If there's a seasonally appropriate item i haven't worn in a while and I seem to be avoiding it for more than 3 months, I donate/ toss - sometimes the fit isnt quite right or i just dont feel good in it!
Of you are someone who can buy off the rack and not have things altered, consider renting things like jackets or fun blouses. Then you can mix it up and feel like your wardrobe is fresh without committing to something long term
This is great stuff, everyone! So much to think about. My wardrobe is not structured at all, and I think i need to Marie Kondo the crap out of it over the next few weeks!!
I have only 2 outfits lol
I am a shopaholic so I have tons of clothes. However, if we're just counting the stuff I regularly wear in rotation i have 10-15 dresses, 10 pairs of pants, 2 skirts, 20-30 blouses, 5 cardigans, 3 blazers and way too many shoes. I never regret buying shoes bc they always get worn. I love dressing up and there's something about looking nice even when you're having a shitty day at work. If I'm tired, I take extra time to look better so that I'll feel better.
