How many weeks/days before your due date did you start your mat leave? I’m hearing some women work until they go into labor but I’m worried I would leave some projects before completion-I’m not sure how this would work. I’d like some days to myself before the baby is born too!

0. Worked until I went into labor for both. For me, I didn’t mind and had good pregnancies where I felt great the whole time. That being said, I was still constantly worried about how I could leave things in the air so I over communicated with my team so that the most they could “lose” would be 1 day and that would be if I went into labor mid-day.

Try to identify discrete tasks that can be completed in a day and don’t worry too much about the projects.

I joke all the time that people give their 2 weeks notice all the time and it’s acceptable, however when a woman gives
4+ months notice that there will be a break in her output, people act shocked when the baby comes :)

Same boat, found my replacement 3 weeks before due date, did transfer work, wrote out where everything was, communicated every day when it started getting closer. Had my second baby an hour after water broke so it was a fast transition to mat leave

It varies by state - some states (I think NJ and CA) allow 4 weeks prior to due date while the rest are 2 weeks prior. It’s up to you if you feel like you’d want/need that time before.

I delivered early with my first and had no “down time” prior. It would have been nice to have I’m sure. I’m pregnant with my second and I’m planning to take the 2 weeks before (hoping I don’t go early again). Give yourself a break before if u can - even if u just rest and prep

I waited but had already transitioned most of my work so was just finishing admin things and typing up notes for the new managers.

I’m due this Sunday and still working. But I’ve completely trained my replacement so I basically do 2 hours of work a day answering questions and then relax the rest of the day. I don’t want to use up any vacation time now, I want to save it all for when the baby comes. But I’m also still feeling good.

3 weeks

I worked the day I went into the hospital to be induced. I wanted to save my time for when the baby was born. However, I don't think it's a good idea to take time off before baby to prevent projects from being left undone. Honestly, you may end up leaving projects undone no matter what and it isn't realistic for your job to expect everything to be seamlessly wound up. I literally got one day's notice that I was being induced 3 weeks early. Shit happens and the people in your office need to learn to roll with it. You're having a baby, they can be flexible.

I only got 12 weeks and wanted it all post birth so I worked until the Friday before my Monday induction. If I had more leave, I agree a week or so to get things ready and decompress would’ve been nice to have. More than that though and I think I would’ve gotten bored and antsy. Good luck!

I worked until I went into labor with my first. I was induced with my second so I took the day off before to take a nap and see a movie.

I started transitioning my files 3-4 weeks before my due date. I also didn’t start maternity leave until my due date, but my work load was much lighter by the time I reached my due date (minus 1 crisis project!).

My first one arrived three weeks early my second one arrived 10 days early. So for the first one I had no time to myself and for the second I had like two days. So you know you just go with it. And best of luck to you.

I worked until the day I went into labor, but a few weeks before I started a document that updated any projects that would need focus while I was out and updated the document daily.

We get 2 weeks prior to your EDD. But if you go into labor prematurely I’m not sure what they do

About 5 days before but I had been wrapping up matters for weeks before. I had gestational hypertension towards the end of my pregnancy (starting at 36 weeks) so I was basically useless from then on; I stopped working around 37 weeks but then had an emergency C-section at 38 weeks. My job was technically 12 weeks paid, and I wanted to wait until giving birth to start it but they really didn’t care and I took the full 12 weeks from the date my daughter was born

PwC puts you on leave at 38 weeks and my baby was born at 41+5

I technically worked up until the dates I went into labor, but the last week before giving birth was on a flex schedule. For both babies, I was going out in the middle of busy season so I tiered my work into 1) “I must be the one to do this before going out”, 2) it would be ideal if I could get to this and 3) tasks I transitioned early because they didn’t need my experience. I had running to do lists that I went over with my teams about 3-4 weeks out and I sent out final versions during my last week.

Two weeks!

Started maternity leave on Wednesday and went into labor Thursday. Obviously didn’t know that would happen, but my plan was to go out five days before my due date. I said as long as I feel ok, I’m going to keep working and save days for after the baby was born.

With my first it was mid august, I started to work from home a week before my due date because of the heat.

With my second, I had to use my PTO or I lost it so I had about 3 weeks before my due date.

Im currently pregnant and will be induced next Monday, took 2 weeks off, the first being PTO and this week is STD

Hello... has anyone had a foreign parent company issue US employees the contract of employment of that jurisdiction (I'm my vase Ireland)... I've just started and no HR before me so they issued the wrong things. They're very clear Irish contracts of employment with reference to Irish legislation in them, but wondering how much of a mess this is? Only issued to 8 employees total.

Secondly, in the recruiting brochure maternity leave is separate from parental leave. Can you take both of you are the primary caretake for a total of 4 months?

Probably not the right bowl. I have $240k in my savings account, recently became a father of 3 and my wife left her job so now one income. I make $215k base. Monthly expenses prob around $6.5k including my mortgage. Home equity somewhere around $200k. I've never been good at investing (always losing money in the market). Want to move to a bigger home but don't want to lose my cash cushion. How can I conservatively grow my net worth? Vague question but any help appreciated. BTW I'm 33.

I lived in tampa in my early 20s and am now in my late 30s and looking to move back. One of the reason I left is because I felt I had too much energy for the city for a single young professional, but now husband is from there and we have a kid but we are both social people. Do you guys find it easy to meet interesting people and has the city gotten any more fun?

I have a friend I used to be close with but we’ve grown apart over the years. She hasn’t worked in several years yet supports herself in NYC, focusing most of her energy on dating. Only wealthy men. Recently she had a fling w a guy for a couple months and got pregnant. They had a huge fight and broke up, she was distraught, and I impulsively offered to fly to NY for her abortion so she wouldn’t have to be alone. Then I found out she basically blackmailed him to pay her almost $100k (contd)

16 weeks and so worried all of the stress I’m under is going to hurt the baby. Between work, my own scary (non-pregnancy) health stuff, the pandemic, my mom (who is a widow and lives alone, basically isolated by choice due to covid) is having health issues, and pressures to keep billable hours up, I’ve been having complete breakdowns. Today I spent almost the entire day crying and now have to make up the billable time this weekend. I really worry abt what effect this will have on the babe.

Hello everyone! I am looking for advice. I am a C&B Team lead ( about 15 years of experience) but all my experience was in Russia. Now I got married and moved to UK , plus we have got a baby in 2019 so now I am looking for a job in UK having 3 years of career break. Although, I am getting CIPD lvl 7 diploma this year. I am not ready for team leader's role now . So my question is about HR area, where could I find a job with my only Russian experience? HR generalist, C&B analyst, HR BP, recruiter?

Any parents who are still on the safe side with Covid? We have a 1 year old and being safe and staying mostly home is really getting to me. Most of our friends have kids who are able to mask up or are vaccinated and it’s getting quite isolating. Especially now mask mandates are being lifted feeling like we can’t go anywhere without risking our kid.

One of my frustrations with myself (writing it out here so I can work on it) is that I will print out something that I need, such as a traffic collision report. I will read it without actually reading it. This results in spending time without actually retaining info. Does this happen to anyone else? I’ve found that I can actually focus when I truly force myself, but often this happens after I’ve discovered an error or an important piece of information that I should have noticed earlier.
