FAANG companies don’t care how long you’ve stayed at a particular company, if that’s your concern.
They don’t really care the hours you have worked. They care about the impact and your fit for the role. So you may be overselling this consulting hours thing. I was there and thankfully had worked with cloud tech.
2-3 years is prob optimal, but 1-1.5 is fine if you really want to leave
Same situation. I just want to get a promotion before switching so they don’t think that I leave because I am not good. Is it a bad mentality?
Yes, if you want to leave, just leave. Recruiters don’t care/know the pace of promotions in consulting. I’ve seen people passed up for promotions 2x and never got promoted for their 3 years in consulting get the exact same role at FAANG as an SC who switched with the same YOE. I see industry typically cares more about YOE rather than title for placement/leveling. I will say you’re a more attractive recruit after 2-3 years though rather than 1.
