How many yoe is typical to reach VP level these days? I always thought it was 2 years analyst -> 2-3 years associate -> VP for the TOP performers. Seeing people online I know with 3 yoe getting vp or 2 yoe getting AVP.

Macquarie seems to be a slower pace in general and has an additional “manager” level before “sr manager” (our VP equivalent). Love working here and have been successful so far but if career progression is much quicker elsewhere I might think about a change…

I was wondering this the other day. I don’t buy that it’s only the tippy “top” of performers making VP in such short notice especially at the top BB’s. COVID / competing with tech for talent / INFLATION*** has probably shortened traditional YOE expectations from pre-COVID times.

IMO I think it’s more people shooting their shot and actually competing with boomers who can’t work their way around basic VBA / Excel beyond basic VLOOKUPs but have failed upwards throughout the years. Yep, I said it!

Moral of the story: shoot your shot, and if it ain’t happening internally, apply to higher level roles elsewhere. Worst that can happen is they say no or some automated email rejection 🤷🏻‍♂️

It depends on the area you work in, for real assets I found that titles vary significantly from firm to firm (some VP might be Sr. Associate elsewhere etc.). If pay is in line with market for your yoe than I would be ok with a different title.

I just bought a new e commerce business but the seller didn't have enough inventory on hand. It's going to take 5 days to get more. How pissed would you be if your order didn't ship for 5 days but we let you know and apologized for it.

7th year in litigation department out of NYC. Highly ranked at my firm but would really love to move to London. Firm has an international office but not sure how feasible it is to switch when (1) I’m litigation not corporate; and (2) I don’t work with anyone out of that office. Does anyone have experience making that move and obtaining a new job (in-house, etc)?

Hi Fishes

I gave google silicon interview all 4 rounds 3+ months back, from then they are saying they want to hire me but headcount approval is not yet received.
Last week they said, lets go for one more round and finalize immediately. That interview also went very good.
Post that they didn't call back itself, they have stopped responding also.

Has anybody faced this issue? This I feel completely unprofessional and not really expected from Google.

I got offered a job as an internal wholesaler at Lord Abbett and market support analyst at Blackrock. Blackrock pays more but it’s an assistant role. Lord Abbett says I can move to external wholesaler but it’s a smaller co and less upward mobility if I don’t get that role. Any reason I should take one over the other?

Hi everyone

I'm in a business development role based in Asia. May I get your thoughts/pointers on the CAIA?

I'm aware that the CAIA is not as popular in Asia compared to the CFA. From my knowledge, there are no CAIA holders in my current firm within the Asian region, despite dealing with alternative investments.

Would be happy to hear your thoughts regarding the CAIA, and study tips if you have any!

For a Masters in finance student graduating in a few months, is it possible to get a referral to any big4s or big asset management firms?

Working as a summer analyst in private wealth management this summer and just got a return offer at GS. Anyone have any experience with salaries, exit ops, etc. pressured between taking the return and looking for something with more optionality.

So, I am a high performer and had to cover for two very senior roles for many months due to quick high turnover. We already had our talks. I found it funny when I was told, “oh and by the way… as you can see we increased your bonus to thank you for covering for so and so.” $500 increase………. Am I silly to think this “thank you” increase is a joke? No salary increase and only $500 thank you for covering for two additional jobs. Am I unreasonable to think the work I covered for wasn’t appreciated?

I do institutional sales for an asset manager. Am graduating in the fall with an MBA from a top 40 school. Would like a designation but dont want to do the CFA. Between the CAIA and CMT: which one is more applicable to asset management, and better status/recognition? appreciate any insight

Anyone know of firms with the Los Angeles area that help you and encourage you to attain the CFP? I’m finding it hard finding local firms that have career trajectory from Client Servicing to full Advisory work.

I’m willing to pay for self study and take local classes but would love and appreciate sponsorship.

Any advice in general for making the jump from more client servicing to advisory would be greatly appreciated.

Ideally I’d love to make my way towards either an Advisor or Strategist.

Is the CAIA content worthwhile? Anyone take it and have any insights to offer on. Is the content provided in the education applicable info to their employment?
