How much do you usually see on your electric bill? I just moved to a 1B/1BH on the west side and got a bill for $200.

It’s pretty variable depending on window quality, heating type, etc. Also usually you get a bill based on past years and it’s adjusted when meter is read.

I had a $500 electric bill in a building with electric heat and bad insulation in the winter. Moved out cause that’s just crazy.

I’ve noticed that in the three years I’ve lived in my apartment, ConEd has increased the supply price (for the actual power generation) by over 80% from 5.9¢/kWh in Dec17 to 10.9¢/kWh in Dec20, so my bill in 3 years has gone from about $80/month including gas (only used for the oven/stove) to over $180/month.

THIS - the fees are obscene nowadays

definitely depends on heating - my first apartment was radiator heat provided by building, electric bill hit max of $75 in like july bc of my window AC (in 1 bedroom); in studio now with electric heat, bill is approx $100per month

like

Depends on the heating structure as others have pointed out and if it’s electric vs. radiator heat. My electric bill in winter hovers around $80 (I have radiator heat) but In the summer it’s closer to $150-200 because of my AC. 700sq ft 1BR.

I’m assuming you’re renting? It’s generally more for electric in rental buildings. I had a $200 bill once cause my roommate used a plug in heater

I live in my own place now and the most my bill is is $60 a month

2 bedroom in bushwick, has been under $50/ month since we lived here. Under $30 before they switched to a smart reader

I’m in a 1b/1bath with steam heating and we typically pay $100-150 while working from home (the upper end is during the summer while running AC). When we were going into the office daily, it was more like $50-100

like

That sounds very high. 600sqft 1 bedroom is usually 75-100/mo maximum unless you are running major appliances like an A/C unit

Was talking to a recruiter today and when she asked about my desired compensation I told her a minimum of $80k since it is already below the average for a Financial Analyst in nyc. Recruiter then asks me why do I think I deserve that amount. I was taken aback because I thought that is very fair for someone with experience in the field already and have a few years of relevant experience as well. Am I tripping or was that condescending? She then tries to low-ball me to $70k 😐.

How have you made a more diverse friend group in nyc? I love my friends but I’m early 30s and just know couples clearing 1M a year living similar bougie lives. No intent to dump these friends - they’re great - but realized I’ve developed a very distorted sense of the world and even nyc. Think it’s a sign more broadly that I should widen my circle.

Hello! I'm considering subletting a furnished room or a 1-2 bedroom apartment this summer in Brooklyn (ideally Williamsburg, Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, Prospect Heights or Crown Heights). My budget would be up to $1500 for a room and up to $3k for a furnished 2-bed (or even 1 bed if large enough). Are there particular Facebook groups or websites you would suggest I use to help search? And of course, please feel free to dm me if you know of something. Thanks :)
