I’d love to hear as well.
2-3 months salary seems like a really vague and antequated rule. But obviously this question also requires specifics about your SO. How boujee is he or she? Personally I know my gf is gonna be kind of a pain in the [•] about the quality especially since she’s named after a certain ring company 💍

Have you considered that if a woman is going to be a pain in the ass about a ring that she's likely to not be any less of a pain in the ass once you marry her?

like

Like $200. It’s cute but she’s cuter.

This is the cutest.

My SO spent about $13k on lab grown diamond for me. Got a better cut and color, higher carat and clarity than a “natural” diamond.

Also felt better knowing it was 100% ethical and didn’t contribute to the blood diamond market.

We’re both in our 30s so he had a bit more budget on it.

What is “that”? And what is “a bit steel”?

I told my partner if he spent more than $8k he didn’t know me

Oh god some of the numbers here are mental. As a non big law attorney in my late 20s I spent about $9k all in- synthetic diamonds are your friend

like

$500. I think if your total net worth is <$10M you shouldn’t spend more than a $1k on symbols of disposable wealth, don’t have much to dispose.

The idea that an engagement ring is "forever" is such hogwash anyway. People routinely upgrade the stones or the entire ring as time goes on and money gets less tight. The stereotype of the wife who never takes her ring off for her whole life and refuses to part with it is something from TV and movies, not real life. My parents have been married 53 years and my mother changed her ring maybe three or four times in that period. It doesn't make her less married and it doesn't make their love any less real.

You buy something affordable that won't hinder your ability to actually start A LIFE together and if you're that desperate to show off then save money in the next couple of years and upgrade the rock. If your fiancee can't deal with that I guarantee you're going to spend the entirety of your short marriage arguing about money or being broke.

Someone mentioned a 14-thousand-dollar engagement ring(!)... coincidentally the same price as the house they bought together in 1969 a year after getting married... because they saved their money.

SO’s budget was 50k and I convinced him to get a 4k ring.

Haha totally no shame needed, not judging just curious!

5k. Married 12 years.

I got engaged second year at kellogg mba. I spent $10k. 5 years later, most of my friends seem to be spending $20k now that they have salaries and have paid off debt. Some people are going crazy and spending like $30-60k, but I think the consensus is that they are stupid and bad with money.

like

He had a budget of 40k, but I picked out the ring and ended up spending around 4K. Seriously if I had a 40k ring I’d be way to scared to ever wear it outside...he had been looking at Tiffany’s but I went local lab diamond shop route instead

$377 after 30% plus 20% discount in macyz diamonds.

Asking that question in this bowl is going to result in skewing results to higher end.

Therefore felt I had to share: $2k and she absolutely loves it. My buddy spent $20k. The choice is yours.

My friend spent $300K. Yep. He’s worth probably $50-100M though
My SO said his is 20-30K

like

When looking at rings with my ex, the budget was 80k but what I wanted was less than that. Realized he wasn’t the type of partner I needed/wanted and thankfully left before he bought it.

likefunny

Thank you!

I spent 6k. Fifteen years later spent 15k on a second ring. I could spend sooo much more but I feel it is ludicrous to spend crazy money on a rock.

like

Used a family diamond, but it's appraised at $16k overall, $5k being for the band. Was a major point of contention since I was so against buying another rock as I used to live in a country rife with blood diamonds.

like

My SO spent $5k which was a large chunk of his life savings at that point. It’s perfect and represents where we were at that point in our lives! I cared more about the guy giving me the ring than the ring itself 🥰
