How much did you spend on living expenses outside of rent (including travel, eating out, other fun things) each year in business school? I’ve saved up ~$80K for both years and wondering if that’s solid for NYC. Don’t need to do everything but wondering what the range might be.

You should ask this in the NYC bowl as well!

I was spending about $2.5K a month when I was in nyc.

Oh gotcha. Yeah I haven’t gone for my mba yet so I don’t know much about it. But I did go for another degree in CS and I took out $20K loans (subsidized) even though it wasn’t absolutely necessary - I just wanted to enjoy my 2 years and use that extra money to splurge on trips with friends. Definitely worth it

Another thing to include is you’ll probably make ~$30k +\- (pre-tax) for your summer internship.

Good call thanks! I think my internship will likely be $15K ish since won’t be in professional services.

i have 4.2-4.6 k of expenses in nyc.

- 1950 for my mortgage + for additional principal monthly
- car payment 880
- hoa + utilities 600
- HO6 and car insurance (2 cars) 225
- Pay for my parents electric gas and water bill - 350-500
- subscriptions (youtube tv, netflix, spotify, internet, prime) - 225
- monthly “drinking” shenanigans - 300-500? probably less. i’m old now

Thanks so much!

Serious question - is there a reverse FIRE strategy? I like the idea of saving and retiring early, but the one hiccup I see (and sorry if this is grim) is if you die earlier than expected. I’d be worried that I would minimize lifestyle and fun for retirement at 50 but I’d die at 49. How about a way to work 9 months out of the year and retire/travel/relax for 3 months? This way you guaranteed your dreams/etc. are fulfilled

What kind of Masters program would you recommend for someone hoping to make it into a senior leadership/executive role in Comms/PR? I have over 6 yrs of experience in Comms in public/private sector. However, I haven't had any formal education in Comms/Journalism which I have felt always put me at a disadvantage. My question is, is there an advantage of doing a Masters to improve my chances of getting into a leadership role? If so, would an MBA be better than a Masters in PR/Comms?

Is there a general expectation that a Partner has an MBA?

I doubt it's required at most firms but I'm a pretty senior staff and when I speak with Partners, they seem to speak with an MBA level of business knowledge which extends past their technical skillset.

I realize that's what makes them good Partners but it makes me wonder if I realistically need to get an MBA to keep growing and hit Partner.

I always travel with my Louis Vuitton Keepall 55 bandoulière as a carry on, with mainly my shoes and handbags in it - but i took her in to LV for a repair and due to supply issues she will sadly not be back in time for my trip to Italy in September. (The repair may take 10 months, WTF!) I would appreciate any recommendations, and would love for it to be similar in size to the Keepall 55.
