For the guy who proposed to me during law school? About $4k… on an unrelated note, thank God we never got married. If I ever meet someone new I’ll come back and comment how much that engagement ring costs 😂

How much discomfort/inconvenience am I supposed to endure for work travel?
I’m being asked to travel from CA to NY for a trade show. Flight options are either overnight or amount to 18+ hours of travel. Plus, I’m a bigger guy and sitting in an airline seat for 6 hours is miserable. I was hired without any pre-defined travel expectations/requirements.

Vaccine mandates over finally. Except for the unconstitutional hypocritical NYC mandate.

Has anyone here made partner after having children at their law firm? I’ve gone through two maternity leaves at my firm and am getting the impression that because my “numbers” (billables, revenue etc.) haven’t been as good as other associates who do not have children (or stay-at-home help for their families), I won’t be put up on time. This isn’t surprising to me, but I am ALSO reduced hours and I’m not sure how I will ever hit the numbers that other associates typically do (cont’d)

There is a partner in our office that routinely discusses associate performance with other associates. For example, she will tell Associate A that Associate B isn’t performing and/or hitting hours, etc. Recently, I learned that she has been discussing “issues” she had with my work product two years ago (I no longer do any work for her). Is this something I should bring up? It bothers me that she is talking about me to others.

Just realized a firm partner has a pattern of treating female employees poorly. Except for the associate who brings in the big money, of course. But it's a trend, and the only reason he doesn't take it as far with me as he does with others is because I do EVERYTHING and he is screwed if I just up and leave. If you've experienced this, how did you deal with it? And yes I am trying to leave, the job market here is a little tough right now.

At the risk of sounding like an absolute loser, does anyone else just ... not really have friends? I’m 26, never really connected with many girls in law school, and my handful of college friends are scattered far from me. Sure, there are people who I can text and vice versa, but I never have anyone to get a pedicure or drink with, let alone celebrate my recent engagement. I’m trying to stay positive, but it’s lonely out here!

Low billable, low pressure work in patent lit, tech trans or privacy law? Slowly realizing that as my boys get older, the money isn’t worth what I’m missing out on. Currently a patent litigation associate with lots of hearing, depo and trial experience (I’ve appeared on my own at hearings/depos) at a well respected firm. Have my CIPM and CIPP/US /E and /C. Just feeling the burn out; 2000 hours of billables a year just isn’t sustainable for me long term. Money isn’t a huge issue.

Input appreciated! As a second year associate, I have a reasonable 1800 billable requirement and make $70k, but I don’t feel aligned with the firm. I want more WLB and don’t care about making partner. I am considering pivoting to a contracts analyst position (glorified doc review) because it’s 100% remote, same pay, has a 40 hour cap (rather than my current minimum!), flexible hours, and no billables or stress. Would this be a bad idea for my career?

Interviewed with firm. Crazy close to home. Firm does my specialty. Seems like a good fit (I have ptsd from previous firms so gun shy). I think I got low balled salary wise. Like $25k less than what I am making now. I would have 4+ years more experience than any of their associates. Their most senior associate has like 4 kids and has a stay at home wife. I find it hard to believe they are paying that associate as low as they offered me. Probably going to counter but would it be wrong to compare
