How much different is T2 consulting from MBB?

4.0 HYS stem undergrad degree, 790 gmat, 3 years at MBB, 2 years in PE, on the board of 2 NPOs, former D1 basketball player. Do I have a shot at McCombs?

Anyone start at MBB as a lateral and just feel underwhelmed? I always felt MBB was the holy grail but have found the leadership style among many of the MDPs so off-putting. At times it’s like working in the court of a deluded emperor

Has anyone gone from Tech consulting to strategy consulting at a T2 or MBB? I’m looking to pivot and was thinking of going the B school route but I want to have a backup plan in case I don’t get in anywhere. TIA!

Has anybody left T2 for MBB and wished you stayed at your T2 firm? If so, what do you miss about it?

Just made M at Accenture and will make $155k. I have an offer to join McKinsey as a BA for $90k. I do really like my team and projects at Accenture and was able to progress fairly accelerated to M at ACN (so maybe could keep it up for progression to SM?). But also I know how much people value the MBB brand. Thoughts?

I want to exit to MBB but if that’s not a possibility what are the next best consulting firms? Looking for at least midsize firms (non-boutiques).

Typical all in MBB comp at ~3 YOE?

There are a lot of really smart candidates I’ve been casing with who’re prepping for interviews at MBB. What separates a good candidate from a great one though? At the moment I don’t feel like my case performance is differentiated (although I’ve only started preparing). Will most of those great candidates I’ve cased with on rocket blocks get an offer assuming that’s a particular subset of people who’re really preparing for it / wanting it?

If you are already a consultant, what are your actual post-MBA goal? Upgrade to MBB? Lateral over to IB for more work and more pay? FAANG for the RSUs? Those are the three paths I’ve identified where the business case holds water. Startups seem great but where’s the payoff?

What's up with McKinsey promoting people so fast? We recruit a lot from MBB and we've interviewed at 20+ of these "direct to EM" with only 3-4 yr post undergrad experience. We haven't been impressed and we typically end up hiring people more "junior" in title but with more leadership, work and "life" experience. These fast EMs have not done well in our process and generally come across as a bit arrogant, expecting to get roles they are not qualified for. Have you experienced something similar?

Unpopular opinion: The only people who still believe in HSW are Wharton alumni and those who believe in MBB are Bain employees

How’s everyone’s firms doing? MBB, Strategy&, EYP, Deloitte, Big4, OW, RB Is the worst over?

Starting at M soon after a short stint at a T2 and feeling some serious imposter syndrome since I didn’t make it out of undergrad. Other people who moved from T2 to MBB - how has your experience been? Do you feel like you’re far behind those who started out of school?

Hot take: consultants at MBB have big egos and seem to promote the idea that they're the "best of the best" not realizing that, in 2021, the "best of the best" works in "tech" typically as engineers and consultants are actually just overworked also rans with oversized egos.

Career advice question. Currently AP / Principal in MBB. Have always performed strongly until a recent case crash with significant ramifications, meaning Partner promotion is probably delayed by 12-18 months. Not keen to wait so exploring options, e.g. with T-2 firms (EYP, S&). What would be the best way to navigate the obvious question “why are you leaving MBB for us?” Thanks team!

Would you say through MBA OCR most individuals only receive 1 MBB offer? Or do people get 2-3 offers and then choose the firm of preference?
