Which company would you join?
I currently work in Sales with the intention of moving over to marketing in the near future. I received two offers for BDR/SDR roles from Sprout Social and Gong. Both salaries are around the same (Gong - base 63k + anticipated $25k in commission, Sprout - 55k base + anticipated $25k in commission).
I like both companies’ software and it extremely hard to decide which position will get me into marketing faster as it is not a traditional BDR path to take.

Depends on industry, deal size, comp plan, etc. I work in tech and can give some examples:
Google Cloud Field Sales: $130k base + $195k OTE sales bonus = $325k OTE total cash comp, plus 300k RSUs vested over 4 yrs (example vesting schedule in annual %: 33/33/22/12), so $425k TC incl Yr1 vested RSUs.
Non-FAANG Enterprise Sales: $130k base + $130k OTE sales commissions = $260k OTE total cash comp, but some AEs land huge deals that can result in commissions checks much higher than OTE payouts. Some AEs land huge $20M single deals, and at 2% commissions payout that’s $400k on a single deal commissions payout — and they might land 2 or maybe even 3 such deals in a year to hit $1M+ TC!
But in either example above, you are only as valuable as the last big deal you’ve closed… and if you miss quota for too many quarters, you only get paid base salary and partial sales bonus, and will eventually get shown the door…
Thank you for clarifying further.
Check out Glassdoor and Payscale to see the industry standard. So much depends on location, experience, industry etc.
I'd add checking sales specific platforms like Compgauge and Repvue for detailed info per company/role/geo.
I’m currently a Sales Specialist at a non-FAANG company now making $305 OTE. I was at Amazon prior as an L5 Enterprise Engaged AM making $250k TC
From my experience and extensive network of similarly titled peers, yes they do. Especially if you come from a FAANG company and go to a non-FAANG company / partner to the FAANG company.
