how much do firms pay attention to non billable but required activities when looking at hours? my billables are extremely low this month. probably will only end up around 140ish, but i’ve done a ton of firm required things- OCI (i’m on the hiring committee) has taken up at least 15 hours of my time, and there have been a lot of firm meetings

After 7 years of chasing that white whale, I finally got a phone screen with Deloitte tomorrow. I more than meet every almost every required qualification (minus the major from undergrad) and meet 3/4 of their preferred qualifications. I’d even venture to say I’m somewhat overqualified for this position as it’s at the consultant level, and my experience would easily put me at senior consultant. Does anyone have any advice for how to approach the phone screen and what I can do to ensure success?

Now I got offer from JPMC but the tech stack is different, Its for Infrastructure team and technology does not have JAVA.
Its for React/ Node JS/ Python.
Also my biggest concern is it worth switching to JPMC for an infrastructure team and for a diff tech. YOE 9.

Up to what point is it feasible for an MBB analyst / associate to switch into banking in the US without going the MBA route? How many YoE? I know it's generally tough to switch after a couple of years, but since MBB is so prestigious I'm wondering how much that helps. You can assume transactional experience.

I feel like billable hours discourage attorney efficiency and incentivizes folks to drag work out or take longer to complete assignments (excluding tangible due dates).

What’s your firms policy on coverage when you know you’ll be out and fully unreachable? If you’re at a firm where you find your own coverage (seems to be the most common) what happens if you are physically unable to find coverage from your network of colleagues but also unable to be available during a certain time frame? Kick it to the partners? Pray and hope for the best?

First year associate here. Firm allows for six-month rotations and I’m deciding between cap markets, m&a, and finance. Any thoughts? In a specialty group now and would love to experience a bigger group. I care particularly about exit opportunities and even a semblance of work-life balance.
