After you do your stint, newly minted PE associates make 250-350 (all in), base is generally low to mid 100's. Issue is that most will keep you for only a few years then make you go back to b-school, very rarely are there internal promotes unless you're a stud. The VP pool is about 20% of the associate pool so most people get stuck as an associate for a while or end up going into something else. Ends up being really good money as a 25 year old, average for a 30 year old. If you are good and can bring in money/do deals, you can climb, but that's like any industry. Probably more important for you to find something you want to do and are good at, because you make the real money when you are a partner/boss anyways so you mind as well find something you enjoy.

how does the signing bonus penalty work if you leave within a year? suppose your bonus is 10k, and you got paid ~7k after taxes, when returning the bonus do you have to eat the 3k yourself?

Are tucks MBB numbers really that good? I saw a student on Reddit say about 35 mbb internships were granted in their year out of about 150 applicants (70-90 interviews per firm). Not sure what to make of this. Additionally, is it true that the battle is to get interviews and once you get one, then it’s just a matter of you performing (I.e., you’re no longer competing against classmates)?
