I max my 401(k), 19k/yr

like

Yep, wife and I both max every year. Once you budget around it you won't even notice.

0%, throwing the extra income at debt

like

Same. 8.99% APR on student loans and 5% guaranteed match (regardless of contribution) from my company anyway.

like

Max and I front load it. So the first few months of the year, I do 60% until it’s at max.

like

I'm losing my company match when I leave. I believe I need 3-5 years to vest in my match :( so it was kinda pointless (though the 10% I put in is still mine and growing)

like

6% - just to get the full company match . Was at about 18% ~$12k, but decreased to save in HYSA for down payment in a few years

like

Yep, have my Roth IRA and a Robinhood account. IRA I put in about 400/month, but will ultimately contribute the max come the deadline to contribute. Haven't really been on top of my brokerage, so not actively contributing and trading, so that's only at 3k these days.

like

$19k trad plus ~$30-35k into post tax

Between spouse and I, we max two 401k's and one 457b, for a total of 57k.

like

$19k a year.

like

Max it

like

Max out baby

like

As high as I am allowed to set it. EY’s 401k is garbage and only allows a max of 30%.

like

I’m currently at 10%. 1% annual increase in January. Just opened a Roth IRA so going to see if I start putting more towards that to max it out.

like

20%, don’t have any need for the money now.

like

I always max out my 401k at $19k/yr in a Roth contribution.

like

30%, started my job in March was originally doing 15%, now trying to get closer to maxing our before year end

like

8% (Max match) for 401k. 7% in Roth IRA. I am 24.

like

12%

15% on 85K base into a Roth

no, in the scenario $1 is your principal, $4 is your gain. you pay tax now to avoid paying taxes on your gains over the next 30-40 years.

I’m at my employer match which is 6% but have it set up to increase 1% each year

Have you changed up your 401k investment strategy given the market performance and uncertain future outlooks? I have been holding with same strategy of investing in large and mid caps, but I’m at -20% YTD. Debating if i should switch to safer options.

This general strike talk has really got me re-evaluating my whole career. I can’t complain about compensation, I’m paid well, I have benefits, and I have a roof over my head. But the work life balance and unsustainable productivity expectations that have been created by agencies that won’t say no to clients needs to change. We place/create ads to turn millionaires into billionaires while we’re treated terribly. Something’s gotta give. I don’t know a single person who isn’t burnt out right now

Refinanced/consolidated student loan at 4.71% fixed IR, 10 years in Aug 2018. $147k now. Pay $3500/month; planning to pay off in 2-3 years. Worth the hassle to refinance at 5 yrs ~2% variable?

When does it become smart to switch to Roth investments? For 20 years I've gone with trad IRAs and 401(k)s; I wasn't a high earner and reasoned I could use the tax benefits and would (hopefully) end my working life with plenty of money in the bank to take the tax loss then. I'm now in early middle age making low six figures--is now the time or do I keep waiting? I know if I take required withdrawals on a trad while I'm still working I could be hit hard, but when I retire I expect to..retire.

I’m 34. I anticipate being in a higher tax bracket when I retire than this year. I have $250k in rolled over IRA. Does it make sense to take the tax hit now, take $15k from traditional IRA and move to a Roth IRA? That would keep me in the same tax bracket.
