Decided as an associate to give 20% of gross income. Post kids, house, two cars, we moved to 20% of net and have continued with that. It's divided between a number of organizations based on causes my wife and I care about: disaster relief, orphans, shelters, food banks, youth programs, cancer research and others. Rare to give more than $500 to a single organization and over 50% of list varies from year to year.
I’m seeing a lot of people in here being real negative about “where your money goes” to charity organizations, it should be illegal to be tax-exempt, etc. Google Charity Navigator and you can see any registered nonprofit in the country on that site and how they use donations. It gives a full financial breakdown so you can be comfortable with giving money or not.
A million Schrute bucks to PwC plus another billion Stanley nickels to my 401(k).
my wife and I tithe at our church
0 because I’ve been working 1 year and half of my salary still goes to rent
The minimum requirement to Movember Foundation so I can grow a mustache for a month and 300-1000 per year to my bookie. I also donate about 10% of my soul to the firm every busy season. Only 65.6% left
I give about $1000 to small local animal rescue groups. There is one that for $75 you can save a doggie from death row.
Churches and big organizations don't need my little pittance, they have enough money. Besides they pay board members way too much money. My donation wouldn't make any difference to them. Small local nonprofits are the ones that really need the money. JMHO
Senior TA1 that's an awesome idea. Going to do that.
We give about 15-17%.
Protestant also, not LDS
I'm a staff 2, my husband and I give 8000k to our church and anywhere from 1-2k to other organizations through the year. Totals near 10% post tax of our combined income.
lol, wow I wish. Definitely meant 8000 or 8k.
Does eating hours count?
I give about $20-30k annually to different organizations through others trying to make a difference through walks, runs, cycling.etc. I donate to my college alma mater (state school that can use every penny) very strategically through a fund so I can direct it. I also do my own pay it forward activities and donations as I volunteer for numerous youth groups, non profit boards and women's mentoring groups. These groups are always in need. I feel blessed to be where I am after years and years of hard work, its time to spread it out.
I make a very substantial annual contribution to the Human Fund. In addition, I make a nominal contribution to my Alma Mater’s accounting program because the firm will match it.
“very substantial” lol
I usually do 100 here and there based upon the charity events I go to. try to keep it local. this year I have done habitat for humanity , United way, and the local animal shelter
none.,wont give money to any charity..
i donate 2 things...my time volunteering, and my blood. universal donor type O
I do give money here or there but I am also type O negative. I also gather things cluttering up my house and donate several times a year. Mostly clothes, shoes and toys my kids have outgrown.
10% (~20k)
Mostly to organization helping the poor.
My effective tax rate
$2k to child sponsor type charities
$1k to misc (largely fundraising events by colleagues, usually to fund research for cancer or sids etc)
10% to church (I’m on the board, I don’t get paid for my time, the pastors get benchmarked against teachers salaries, others get paid minimum wage + 25%, most are volunteers)
$1.5k to charities via my church (community free tuition, mobile shower for homeless, women’s refuge etc)
I don’t have kids and live with my parents so can afford to spend my money on what I want.
Fellow PwCers on this thread who volunteer their time make sure you log in T&E and you can get the dollars for doers credit to help your causes financially as well!
My wife and I tithe 10% of our gross income and will make an additional donation each month to support those in need.
I donate only to the environment and animal welfare orgs that I have researched, have donated about 5k this year (salary 51k)
