I try to not go below $100 in checking lol

likefunnysmart

that's a crapload of money you are leaving on the table from a compounding interest perspective OP.

Just use a credit card

I keep 5-10k in checking, then usually have another 10k or so in the generic vanguard money market fund so I at least get some interest while remaining flexible

Like $500 in cash after bills and such, everything else is in a S&P 500 index fund or 401k

Uhh like 2k in checking, 20k in Chase savings, 70k Ally savings, 90k stonks. Basically 100% incrementally goes into the stonks now though.

3k checking, 10k savings, 30k Robinhood, 100k portfolio and 200k 401k

This thread makes me think I have way more cash than most people in my rough net worth band. I’m probably a little paranoid about major expenses but this is enlightening. Nearly $100K cash on hand seems to be well above anyone else here…

Hmmm similar here. 60k in 401k/investments and 25k in HYSA, and 20k in savings/checking to maintain my cash back bonus %.

Yeah same — I have over 50% in cash … putting all in stonks feels risky

@Senior Associate, if they're investing in bond funds there is capital appreciation involved

About $25 - 35k liquid for emergencies, and about 10% in my IRA so I can seize on any potential investment opportunities.

Keep 6 month emergency fund in cash and invest the rest. Missing out on compound interest

I have 30k in 401k, 58k in high yield savings ( I save up and by rental properties), 25k in brokerage account and just 500 in checking!

Buy an asset or you’ll stay in the salary class forever

I keep 6 months of expenses. 5k in checking, 10k in savings

How much stock do you put on benefits? I have two offers with stark differences in benefits. Job 1: role I want, but benefit sucks (2 weeks paternity leave, 20% coinsurance). Job 2: role is okay but higher level and great benefits (16 weeks paternity, 0% coinsurance, 5 more days of vacation). Total comp is the same though. I wonder if I should just focus on role but Job 2 is a large company, so I can move around after 2-3 years I’d expect. Thoughts?
