As someone who thrifts anything I can and lives in NYC, I get plenty of compliments on my $5-10 shirts and general personal style. Don't feel pressured to spend more than you want.
It's about fit and quality, not labels. Hunt down sales and try on a bunch of stuff. Once you find a few brands and silhouettes you like, it makes it easier to know what to shop for.
First year in consulting, all my $$$. In hopes of getting where A1 is
I don't like thinking about it... jk! I have all the basics at this point so I spent $100-200 a season just buying things to refresh the closet or buy trendier pieces to accent.
Maybe $1000?
In my first year here ive revamped my wardrobe and spent close to $1000. Bought basics and will spend very little as i go on; similar to A1.
I dont work in nyc but i highly doubt shopping for labels is necessary. Your wardrobe budget will explode and you’ll likely later think about how you couldve put that in savings or towards really anything else with more value/longevity
Caveat I would add is dress for the role you want from a style perspective -- the increase in base/perception of promotability will more than pay for the slight investment in wardrobe, and it doesn't have to be labels
Too much
First year, spent maybe $800, but I'm a super sale shopper.... Expecting $500 next year as I build up the basics, shoes are the real problem as I've been able to walk to most of my client sites so I wear out a pair every 2 months 🙈
I’m a bargain shopper too but my attire cannot match the standard set by women in NYC, my present client. Makes me think if investing $$$ in labels is the only option...
@AU2 - I use walking shoes and then change in the office
