How much do you keep in your savings account as an emergency fund?

You're supposed to have 6 months worth of living expenses. I now have the $20k for two people like D2 except it is all invested in Apple stock and is my entire portfolio so it isn't exactly a liquid emergency fund unless you consider borrowing against it and running up a margin.

ATK... This is the same conventional finance wisdom that says don't pay off your house faster, you can make more money investing the additional cash into the market.

Sometimes it feels better to have cash ready at the bank. Or it feels better to have a paid off house.

About $3.50.

15k. NYC is expensive and unforgiving

like

You can sell stock very quickly to make it liquid, usually a couple of days

like

D3- that's not smart at all? You should diversify

like

What bank do you guys use, have 8k with chase and literally get like 4-6 cents per month

like

Ally

I have never regretted paying off the house. Best decision ever.

like

6 months pay in a high interest savings account at Ally. With that full I split the rest of my savings between an after tax mutual fund and traditional 401k.

like

I have $20K in a BoA savings account. Seems like I should move it to Ally or invest in ETFs instead?

like

$10k, about 4 months of expenses

like

Yeah I'm really impressed. Student loans got me behind

like

65k. And I am paying student loans and car loans.

Savings add up super fast with no debt.

like

20k for two ppl

^ that's what I'm thinking, debating if I should just keep 5k in cash and put 5k in an ETF

And are you guys keeping your rainy day fund in investments or just savings accounts?

Capital One 360

I should have more in cash...just 2-3k am saving a lot, but all in long term investments. Have CCs and a home equity line of credit for emergencies. Wondering if that's smart though.

I just moved in house this year and reviews are coming up in 2 month. Does anyone have advice on how to ask for a higher salary and how much more we should be asking for? I’m 3rd year out of big law with an all in at my company of 240. I’ve been taking on a lot more responsibility and leadership projects including redesigning our legal ops system. I’ve also been told I’m doing great in every check in. Typically we get 3-5% increase but with id like more with the new big law raises. Thoughts?

Anyone here in Canada with TD Bank? This is the 3rd time, I've been a victim of credit card fraud with TD. Once in 2020, 1 in 2021 and now 1 in 2022.

I've been with TD since 2014 and am wondering if the company is facing breaches

I live by myself. Do not share my credit card info with anyone. Do not click on phishing or spam links. Do not provide my credit card info by phone.

Any tips on what I can do to protect myself? This is frustrating and scaring.

24 year old moving to the west coast from the east coast and living in a big city. I don’t really know anybody in this city. I’m debating if I want roommates. I think I’d like the perks of living alone, but I’d also love to have someone to be around just generally. I’m in a long distance relationship so I don’t need to worry about bringing randos back for hookups or anything. Anyone have any thoughts or advice on the decision to get roommates or not?
