Dick size question again??? lost count of which number!

More of a lifestyle planning question. Feel free to move along though... I'll never understand people who open a thread to complain how they're tired of such threads. Just skip it. We get it, you're a better person than us. Enjoy the view from that high horse.

My number is 7-8M

Our generation will easily live into the late 80s. Got to account for ~20 years of expenses.

I could do with 3-5M, but I'm aiming for more like $8M.

In today's dollars what do you need $7-8M for at 65? At that point you are looking at a 20-30 year retirement before you bite it. 4% withdrawal rule is very safe for that amount of years. That would net you $25k per month which seems impossible to spend (especially the older age years) even considering poor tax planning if you are paying 40% withdrawals to gov't. At 65 I'd have house paid off and no need to save for anything at that point so would leave with $2M without second thought. Probably be willing to stretch it at lower #'s just to live and not work the last several active years of life you have at that point

Probably 2-3k BTC

Partner = salary for life

Aiming for 3 by 60. That way, if I get pushed out into a forced retirement anytime after that, I can still live free and easy.

^ that given, I have no plans to retire before 68

Only need to live 4 years after that

I was thinking 4, personally.

The general rule is 25x current income assuming you want perpetual income in retirement

Fellow Partners/Principals, how does Partner deferred comp/pension work at PWC and EY. I have direct admit offers (verbally confirmed today) from both. I am also in the process of switching to Principal track Deloitte in the upcoming FY and Deloitte’s pension is based on avg of your best 3 yr. I am hearing that may not be the case at PWC. I would like to account for that in negotiating fair signing bonus and/or annual income offer. I am leaning towards PWC. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone! Is it better to be an exempt employee or a non exempt employee? I’ve always been an exempt employee but I recently changed my job and I’m now a non exempt employee (but with all the benefits with health insurance, 401k, RSUs, etc.). Just curious what your thoughts are with being an hourly paid employee. I think I’m getting all the benefits I need + overtime pay but in back of my head, it feels weird and unstable to be non exempt… should i ask my manager that I want to become exempt?

Planning to roll over the pension from my previous company to IRA. Do you recommend rolling it over to traditional or Roth IRA? If traditional IRA, will that make me unable to do backdoor Roth IRA in the future (haven’t done it so far as my income is still below the limit. Also, right now I only have Roth IRA). TIA!

Just realized I can’t contribute to a Roth since my income is too high (I think). TC ~190k and wife makes around 90k. I’ve only been contributing for a few months now at the advice from a CFP friend (he never asked me what I made). Should I go back to 401k contributions or is there a better option here? I expect my retirement income (via pension) to be higher than my HHI now.
