How much do you pay for benefits? I am thinking about moving districts but I am not sure what the hidden fees are for their benefits. Wish it was more transparent, I feel like other districts get paid way more but I was wondering if they syphon your money away with health insurance, dental etc.

Im on pace to settle between $8-10M this year ($2.7-3M in fees) as pre-lit personal injury attorney, 10 years out, 1 year into new firm, Base $90k, 3% commission, I should clear $175k-$180k this year with benefits and 4% matching IRA, we have 55 employees at the firm, is it unreasonable to be wanting to clear $200k a year? $225k a reach? Retirement question: Currently 23 and will max my 401k ($19,500) but wondering if Roth or traditional is best here? Currently 24% tax bracket, so with a Roth I will be taxed upfront $4680, but if I go traditional I will additionally put $4680 to work in a traditional IRA (essentially either way I will be committing $24,180 to retirement yearly). In this case, would a Roth or traditional be a better choice? I feel more invested early to compound is important, but will taxes be exuberant in 40yrs?

Just got news that two of my best friends at my shop are leaving and I’m devastated. Work will not be the same without them. Actually it will be very lame without their powerful personalities (and incredibly loud laughs)
(I know both of them see those boards, so if you see this just know I love ya, hope life can make you happy wherever you go.)
Stay safe, my friends :(
Best books to read when starting your own business, but also embody imposter syndrome & validation issues. Anything from self-help, psychology & business is welcome. TY x
My coworker who’s the same level as me keeps trying to pass on her work to me. Today she said let’s set up time to discuss next week (I’m thinking she wanted me to set it) but mentioned the output of the meeting is something she would like to present at a broader meeting. I just said yes let’s, and left it at that. She’s my peer but been longer at the company and also about 8 years older but by no means do I report to her. Is it wild for me to be annoyed at this situation? If she wants to..
Is it a waste of time to try and build a relationship with an AD like Watches of Switz in Hudson Yards NYC if you only buy 1-2x per year and ultimate goal is Rolex Sub or Exp1? Would it make more sense to build that relationship remotely with an AD in a market with less demand?
Hell carbon38 is so expensive! Don’t know if worth it. Looks pretty and good quality though.

I think that instead of teaching public school like middle school or high school, I will one day teach at the university level. I think this will be a great change for me.

Why do people think we want to volunteer for stuff? On top of the stuff we already do??? Why!? Then try and make you feel guilty… I don’t see six figures on my check.
What do you all do when you are going through stuff (mental health wise) outside of the classroom. Teaching is a profession where you always have to be "on". What do we do if we are anxious/depressed?

Well, our district found a COVID loophole and are exploiting it. They get to determine whether or not we are considered a “close contact” or not with a positive student. And because they told us to “never be within 6’ of a student for 15 minutes or longer” (in a tiny classroom with 28 JH students), they’re justifying that if we test positive “despite their efforts”, it’s on us, not the district, so they won’t cover any medical costs or give us the Covid days off. Talk about feeling expendable.
I had a whole week off last week for Winter Break...but it's back to work tomorrow. Aagggghhhhh!!! 🤪

Time to vent... So far this year, 14 staff members have resigned from my district (myself included). I'm in a small, rural, K-12 district so there aren't many of us to begin with. In my 5 years here there have been 4 principals and another new one coming next year. Our board "doesn't know how to keep people here" yet they refuse to pay more when the pay is significantly higher in every district around us (also small districts.) It's a never ending cycle and I feel terrible for the kids.
Hi all! Considering transferring from Middle School to a High School setting. Would I just need to take my praxis in the content area I want to teach?
