How much do you pay for benefits? I am thinking about moving districts but I am not sure what the hidden fees are for their benefits. Wish it was more transparent, I feel like other districts get paid way more but I was wondering if they syphon your money away with health insurance, dental etc.

Retirement question: Currently 23 and will max my 401k ($19,500) but wondering if Roth or traditional is best here? Currently 24% tax bracket, so with a Roth I will be taxed upfront $4680, but if I go traditional I will additionally put $4680 to work in a traditional IRA (essentially either way I will be committing $24,180 to retirement yearly). In this case, would a Roth or traditional be a better choice? I feel more invested early to compound is important, but will taxes be exuberant in 40yrs?

Well, our district found a COVID loophole and are exploiting it. They get to determine whether or not we are considered a “close contact” or not with a positive student. And because they told us to “never be within 6’ of a student for 15 minutes or longer” (in a tiny classroom with 28 JH students), they’re justifying that if we test positive “despite their efforts”, it’s on us, not the district, so they won’t cover any medical costs or give us the Covid days off. Talk about feeling expendable.

I had a whole week off last week for Winter Break...but it's back to work tomorrow. Aagggghhhhh!!! 🤪

Time to vent... So far this year, 14 staff members have resigned from my district (myself included). I'm in a small, rural, K-12 district so there aren't many of us to begin with. In my 5 years here there have been 4 principals and another new one coming next year. Our board "doesn't know how to keep people here" yet they refuse to pay more when the pay is significantly higher in every district around us (also small districts.) It's a never ending cycle and I feel terrible for the kids.
