Hi all, I joined a company 7 weeks ago as a motion graphics designer in the marketing team. 5 weeks after I joined, two coworkers in my team, both titled marketing associate handed in two weeks notice and leaving on the same day. They told me the reason they leave is because of the head of marketing who was my hiring manager during the interview process. I do find there is a lack of management and project planning.(I will continue the story in the comment section due to word limit in this post)

I’m currently working at a start up for the last 2 weeks and not really happy with the role in terms of benefits and also the role itself is just me figuring out where I am supposed to be useful because they already have an outsourced design agency who is currently working on projects. I have an offer on the table to work at American Express as a UX Designer? Would the startup help fast track my career more?

I had a really weird interview for Creative Director today.

It’s a small startup. HR interviewed me and asked all the hard hitting questions (how do you get design inspiration, how do you deal with design roadblocks, what sets you apart for this role?) which I thought was odd for a screening interview.

They made some affirmative noises then said the next step would be a design test (one pager) which I would present to a panel of interviewers including the CMO.
Anyone else think this is odd?

Just got a design test for a senior role asking me to design social posts, a creative concept for products they’re releasing in a few months (irl), and another conceptual idea for an awareness campaign. Too much for a design test? I’m truly torn. There’s already a few red flags but I can’t tell if this is reasonable or not

I work at a design agency and we don’t always have data or do usability testing to validate our design. It all depends on the project scopes and the clients. In many cases, we just design and get the stakeholders to review then we will ship the design.

It’s always my pain point of selling myself. Its also the reason why I am leaving agency world. It really worries me as I will be interviewing with my dream company very soon. Any tips to help me to overcome it? Should I fake it until I make it?

I’m so tired of the fun getting sucked out design via overzealous feedback on legibility, golden ratios, and whatever new “rule” some design bro talked about in his money grab authoritarian keynote. Surely I’m not the only one who listens to their gut feelings? Sometimes ugly and wrong is interesting. Where did everyone’s imagination go?
